On Saturday, we went to see Eric Bibb at The Sage. He's a blues singer / guitarist, and does an accoustic set with a small group (last night he just had a drummer and a base player, both phenomenal)
Fantastic evening - such an incredible performer. I'm curious to know a couple of things - how blues singers / musicians like him manage to be:
So.
Damn.
Cool....
and how it is that he managed to make just about every single person in the 1500-strong audience feel like he was their own personal friend.
One of the best performers I've ever seen.
Which got me thinking - anyone else here been to see anyone recently (or not-so-recently) that really stood out, and that they'd like to recommend?
Not seen Eric Bibb, but I have heard some of the stuff he did with jools holland and it was awesome.
Speaking of which, I saw Jools Holland a few years back and that was easily the performance I've ever been to.
I think it's all about engaging with the audience (what you said about Eric Bibb really) and I've been to a few where the band thought it was sufficient to stand and stage and play their songs. Doesn't matter how good those songs were, I went away disappointed.
When I go to see a performer of any kind, I expect to be entertained, not just to see a live version of something I've seen/heard before.
Hard to please ain't I?
