    Recording LEvels on Itunes

    Okie... here goes..

I have PC based I Tunes... when I burn CD's for use when I DJ, the record level is very low. I have to set the gain right up on the mixer.

Is this something easily sorted or do I need to get a better CD burning package??

    thanks

    Re: Recording LEvels on Itunes

I think someone posted about the same problem a few months ago...

It's not something I've noticed myself, but then I'm not a DJ and I don't burn many music CDs (though the ones I can recall doing, for, e.g., a car trip, don't sound any quieter than any retail CD.)

I wonder if it's a function of the "Sound Check" system, which tries to balance different songs levels to the same – usually by making everything quieter. If you do a "get info" on a track you can see a "volume" rating which the adjustment Sound Check will make if it is turned on. (You can turn it on and off in the "Playback" area of Preferences.)

An interesting experiment would be to turn on Sound Check, take a song with a high negative "volume" rating, burn it, rip it back and see what the rating is after. Then repeat the experiment with Sound Check turned off.

I leave Sound Check turned off, as I don't trust its automatically produced volume ratings.

    Yes, it was me!
Thanks to Quiet Flame who mentioned the "Sound Check" function and some experimentation I think I've cracked the same problem you've found Dan.

Make sure "Sound Check" is off.
Make sure "Graphic Equalizer" is on.
    Set "Pre-Amp" to maximum.
    Then try burning a CD.

Of course there could be another way ( I'm v. new to computers) but it seems to up the volume
    Hope this helps.

Careful with the pre-amp though - can make a mess on playback...

Personally far better to use a bespoke piece of software - WinOnCD (Professional) is brilliant as it burns all sorts of CD's, DVD's etc etc but best of all,

It has a range of functions such as edit the music (get's rid of long silences at the beginning or end of tracks), pitch AND speed so the crooners don't sound like Pinky and Perky (if you're too young to remember ask someone older...), add effects, cut and paste, burns data CD's....loads really...

Also does other stuff such as edit burn speed, prints labels / inserts etc, volume on the burn, fade in and out for the track...etc etc...

Great piece of pro software and a fantastic investment if you are burning staff regularly...

    Wouldn't be without it now...
