Yes, very nice. Esp the Sun night. I didn't feel I was dancing well at all, but some comments from partners and observers were encouraging (esp from one lady who was a lovely dancer herself).

Its a good idea if water is coming through a ceiling - there is a risk of the whole ceiling collapsing, but making a few small drainage holes allows the water to escape and the ceiling to dry out. Its then easier to repair a few small holes than replace a whole ceiling.

    Back to the review...

I had a good weekend. I no longer have a wonderful weekend just because its a dance weekend, but I was prepared for that and have shifted my perceptions and expectations. I had some great dances in all of the rooms, though I tend to just pop into the main room, have a few dances and head out again, some of those were really fab dances.

Some unexpected tangos - some had seen me tango with someone else (one had seen me tango in June) - nice to be asked up for a dance with a stranger to discover its a tango.

I enjoyed the music in the latin room and had some very enjoyable, playful dances in there.

I found the blues room a little crowded, but enjoyed Sun afternoon and later on Sun night when there was a bit more space.

I asked more (and only got one refusal - from a forumite ).

I think the biggest difference for me was how I felt about my dancing. There were several folk from NI on their first weekender - they've been dancing the same length of time I was when I came to my first Southport - and it reminded me of how far my dancing has progressed since then. I know I still have lots of things I want to learn and improve, but I felt confident and comfortable with my own dancing, and as a consequence enjoyed the dances more, and probably danced better too.

I have SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much to say, but I'll attempt that when my brain is less frazzled...

    In Summary,

    music: cool.
    people: tres cool.
    blues dancing: the poodle's pompoms.

First weekender. First real experience of a blues room... 'kin 'ell!!

    Southport Sept 06,the aftermath.

I had a great time at Southport though I feel like a wreck now.

I enjoyed Amir's musicality class (especially the MC Hammer choreography) and also felt his cabaret with Cat was the pick of the (very entertaining) bunch.

Can count the number of disappointing dances I had on the fingers of one hand which is quite some commendation given the number of hours I was dancing for. Didn't ghettoise myself in the Blues Room this time and enjoyed some dances in the Main room (the Latin Quarter is too oppressive for my liking).

The BBQ was fun (even if I was late due to thinking it started at 7 and not 6 ) and sorry for anyone in the round who was prevented from sleeping by the combined laughter of the Di-yena and myself when we were the only two left.

Not sure the gender balance was quite right and this led to some pressure and predatory women. For me, one of the big attractions of Southport is the opportunity to dance with ladies from Scotland (I don't normally name names as it's too easy to slight people who you don't list but just how good a dancer is Lisa ) and the North and Midlands who I don't otherwise get to see. I didn't manage as much of this as I wanted to this time. Perhaps some of the people I know from dancing locally are less confident of asking new people and find comfort in a familiar face but it did lead me to regret some missed opportunities.

Enjoyed the Sunday afternoon on the decking, drinking and dancing. Plenty of smut and innuendo from the forum ladies (and not just the people you might expect) - a quick mind is a dirty mind Also very enjoyable to watch Noel meet his match dancing with Isabelle - that's some crazy style.

I'm too tired to write sensible stuff so I'll just say that Southport ROCKS, yeah!
