    Really?

They're kidding, right? I'm fairly sure there've been some other significant deaths between "Shagger" JFK and, err, "Shagger" Diana, some of them equally sudden.

For example, just off the top of my head:
    • Winston Churchill, 1965
    • Martin Luthor King, 1968
    • Bobby Kennedy, 1968
    • Numerous rock stars, 1960s - 2000s
    • Mother Theresa, 1997
    • Pope John Paul II, 2005

I'm fairly sure most of those deaths were seen as quite significant.

Errr... I don't even know who the guy was, so probably not.

Let's get a sense of proportion here, please. A TV presenter, famous for taking risks apparently, has died. Sad, but almost an occupational hazard I'd imagine.

So let's not fly national flags at half-mast or make pilgrimages just yet, huh?

Isn't it touching to see that the "War on Stingrays" may just have been declared in Steve's honour? Gives me great hope for the future.

he was asking for it anyway, according to PETA

“It comes as no shock at all that Steve Irwin should die provoking a dangerous animal,” PETA’s Dan Mathews tells The Scoop. “He made a career out of antagonizing frightened wild animals, which is a very dangerous message to send to kids.”

Damn. I’ve just noticed this thread. It’s very difficult to shock me. But I am shocked. I watch TV very seldom, so I haven’t heard this news.

Now I feel like I’ve just lost my best friend. I love such people as Steve Irwin, Alain Robert, etc. Though, ‘etc.’ is not very pertinent word, because there are not so many really unique people in the world. I love Irwin, I love his documentaries.

I don’t know what to write else. Tears in my eyes. I guess I must get drunk. Damn!

Re: Steve 'Crocodile Hunter' Irwin has died.

this morning i heard an interview with his wife where she said his death wont ever be shown on telly and that it was a safe thing for him to be doing just like writing with a pencil and that she will continue his work.

made me cry all over again.. such a sad loss....

    Leroy (Satchel) Paige (1906-1982)

Mickey Mouse's girlfriend, Minnie, made her film debut, along with Mickey, in "Steamboat Willie" on November 18, 1928.
That date is recognized as her official birthday.

Re: Steve 'Crocodile Hunter' Irwin has died.

I watched the interview with Terri last night, and it just is heart wrenching listening to her talk.

I had to really hold back the tears when she was talking about how when she was up in the booth above the crocoseum where they walk down the stairs to get the to crocs when they have a show, and that she had to walk down the stairs and she just broke down because Steve always walked down the stairs in front of her in case she fell and he wasn't there.

I think we will see a lot of Bindi in the future, and she will do a lot of good. You can see that she has her Dads spirit and personality, but there will never be another Steve Irwin.

Still difficult to believe… However, Steve had a very good and interesting life and a wonderful occupation. He knew that he could die of an ‘occupational hazard’. I mean to say that I would also prefer spending an interesting life and dying, for example, at the age of 30 or 35 to spending an empty life and dying, say, at the age of 100.

I’m sure that he was a wonderful husband, father and friend. He had irresistible charm. Children know it, because they are good psychologists. If I have children one day, I will recommend them to watch the documentaries by Steve Irwin…
