Can't remember where I heard this but it was said in reference to someone on this forum I think - the best kind of hugs come from people who 'hug with their whole body'. It doesn't have to be a bear-hug, but a hug that feels like the person really means it comes not just from the arms but little things like how close you stand, how long a hug lasts and whether any part of your body feels like you're pulling away can make the difference between a nice hug and a fantastic hug.

    (IMO )

Slow setting plaster! At my work we get the couple to hug, cover them in plaster and scrim and then they have to wait about 20 -30 minutes for the mould to set. Cement is good too but can be tricky getting the couple out.

I've found no clothes and two bottles of chateau neuf du pape works admirably.

Yeah but I hope not all your hugs take place with no clothes on

    You're hugs are fab.

I love hugs where you touch from shoulders right down to your ankles (or your knees at least).

... in fact I wouldn't like to be the judge of a 'hugging competition' between the two of you... you're both so good at them it'd be hard to pick a winner

That's easy - the best kind of Hug comes through the use of Sincerity on behalf of the Hugger and Empathy for the Hugee

    Try this for size

    The moment's right.
It's that girl you've had your eye on for weeks.
You asked her name ages ago.
    You remembered it without difficulty.
Your heart skipped when you saw her standing in line at dance class.
It almost stopped when she hit you with her smile.
You somehow managed to reply wittily to her comments even though your brain has stalled.
    You've been for a drink
    . . . . . a quiet pub
    . . . . . . . . . . not quiet so no one sees you
    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .quiet so you really can hear what she says.
    Her smile never waned.
    She laughed at your jokes
    . . . . . . . . . . . even the one with the camel in.
    She was close
    and moved closer
she took your hand when you faltered
and now you've said goodbye you're stood right by her car
    . . . . . . she's not getting in
    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . you bite the bullet, you kiss her
    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Time stops

the kiss slowly breaks and you find
    . . . . . . . . .the girl of your dreams in your arms
    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .and as you hold her she holds you
    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .as if to say "don't go"

That right there, that moment in time, is a hug!

I definately want one of these

But on the subject. Everyone gives different Kinda hugs there is no recipe. The hug must suit the personality of the huger! and be what the Hugeee requires.

As long as the person giving the hug really cares and isn't just hugging because it's expected then it will always be a good hug!

One where you don't have to guess the contours counts as a pretty good hug in my book.

    Re: Try this for size

nowt worse than an insincere hug.

As a self proclaimed hug dealer I have been told on numerous occasions that I give good hugs.. (Well gadget has the neck massage thing.. I had to specialise elsewhere)

You've got to apply the correct amount of pressure. You're not giving them a bear hug and trying to squeeze the life essence out of them but you have to be firm and supportive. you've got to be firm and steadfast as well.. no point having good strong arms if your legs are like jelly and you're swaying like a tree in an autumn gale. You're there to support them .. not the other way round.

When you wrap your arms around them you are cutting off a little circle of space time.. once you have them in your grasp there's only you and them in the entire universe.. you have to hug them so that they can feel that !

You have got to pour love and affection into them through the conduit of your embrace.. you have to care for the person you are hugging. A hug without genuine feelings attached is an empty hug.. as about as effective as two business colleagues air kissing. It's devoid of purpose.. it means nothing.

when you get it right , (and I don't always.. I must say .. more often than not but sometimes I'm not in the mood) you'll know.. as for that few moments two people vanish to be replaced by one.

lastly .. hugs have a lifespan. sometimes a hug is brief, sometimes it seems like it can go on forever. You have to be able to read the minutiae signals from the hugee, if they want more, supply it.. if they've had their fill then disengage.

and lastly. it doesn't matter who you hug. Males, Females, Old or young. Hug them all the same way. A hug is a connection thing not sexual. I've given some of my best hugs to male friends when they've needed it. Sometimes the whole macho thing gets in the Way but I've had friends who were a bit shocked when I gave them a hug but after a moments hesitation they really got into it.

And remember too.. hugs are addictive. As my T-Shirt says "Hug Dealer, 1st ones free" of course, once your hooked the 2nd ones free too.. and the 3rd and the 4th.. the 5th.. the 25th.. the 100th

    Interesting story about hugging machines:

    http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?sec...ell&id=3366089

(Although I recall another story about someone who built something similar themselves then got crushed to death in it. It's a dangerous world out there...)
