    Fish

I'm away a while, so (probably) no posting for a bit (which is likely a good thing for my sanity). Thought I'd leave you all this

Just in case you haven't seen it. Sorry if it's been posted here before.

    Questions:
    Is it real?
    Can it be real?
    How can it be real?
    How is this possible?
    Why would anyone even try?
Is he insane? (he sounds it)
    Are they real fish?
    Is it real?

    Huh?

    Re: Fish

Novel idea...but I'm thinkin not. Apart from the obvious two of the fish swim backwards and, if my fish professor is to be believed (yes I do have a professor of fish) they can't do that because the gill plates are too thin and because of the direction of flow of the water through the buccal cavity (some fish can swim backwards, but not many...members of the eel family can swim backwards...also, I think, lungfish ). And now I'm going to stop typing...ahem....

    Oh goody, fish geekery.

Knifefish can swim backwards quite well, as well as they can go forwards in fact.

Unfortunately I can't see the video in my office, so now I'll stop typing as well

    Re: Fish

The question is, which is less bother? Finding a Japanese guy who has spent his life training goldfish or spending millions to fake that video so convincingly?

The goldfish only swim backwards in a very awkward manner for a couple of inches.

Millions? I think not.. looks at all the funny movies and videos out there on Google video, You Tube etc.. some of which are mre sophisticated than this one, all done by PC/mac hobbyists on their home machines.

funny though when i did a search on google for synchronized goldfish, I got lots of links to various hoax sites. alas not Snopes this time..

    Re: Fish

To do that with CGI you've got to individually animate 4 fish realistically, provide a very convincing emulation of water, including ripples, shadows and refraction and cope with the guy's hand interacting with these things.

Can you point out a more sophisticated hobbyist video for me?

or digitally copy one real fish and move it around in post production. Heck Somewhere on my archive i have a video of me walking next to myself and having a conversation. I did that myself , using available software and I'm not good at this sort of thing!

When i said CGI I didn't mean rendering from scratch.. I mean taking live elements and using a computer to cut , copy and paste into position.

you say it's real, I suspect it's fake. who's to say who is wrong. I was just stating my point back in my first post in this thread that I think it's very clever but no more real than a ice scating transformer car !

you want to disagree? good on you, the world would be a boring place if we all agreed. You're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine. or is it a case of you're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to your opinion too??
