They did a number of more rigourous studies too – this one was only to get a further acknowledgement of their results.Originally Posted by Stuart M
In particular they found that across *all age groups* (not just old people) there was a gradual decrease in the percentage of left-handers. This even included people under 20.
I've read Coren's book on this subject, and I've got to say his results look pretty convincing.

Really? I can't honestly say I've ever fancied a dolphin, perhaps I'm abnormal.Originally Posted by Dizzy
Perhaps - I haven't read it so I can't comment on it. All I was saying is that the 1991 study's research method was questionable, and the results have not been corroborated by later studies. Some of these were considerably more thorough (1,2,3 below), and left-handedness research has moved on since then.Originally Posted by ducasi
Coren seems better known for his work in dog psychology these days anyway. It's just bizarre that this 1991 study, with its headline "9 years less for sinistrals" quote, is casually bandied around. This study is also worth a look with some good references.
By the way, the one about polar bears is rubbish as well. And so is all that stuff about left-handed geniuses.
Oh, and there's no Santa either
