Although, to me it is not so much trying too hard rather than the girls feeling they can't cruise and have to be aler at all times.
Personally I can't care less .. well, within reason, obviously. But if a lady wants to cruise and expects me to make an effort then there is something wrong
I guess what that means is that you don't necessarily have to try to surprise your partner for her to feel surprised. It could be in the nature of the style?

I was dancing a fair slinky track last night with one of my regular partners and he ran his fingernails (lightly) down the length of my arm. Ooooo! I see him in a whole different light now!
Yes i have noticed this when we dance, but it's still "fun!".Originally Posted by Franck

I HATE THE DUCK UNDER, I HATE THE DUCK UNDER!!!!!!! Arm pit hair, sweat and men who are less than 5 feet 8 (my height in heels!), will definitely get a grimance from me!Originally Posted by bigdjiver

There is the lady duck under - which I do not lead, and there is the man duck under, which I use lots.Originally Posted by ElaineB
it is the guy ducking under the arms. It is the lady, usually recently out of the beginner stage, who is standing erect thinking "where did he go?". It is just another move for the experienced... start as in a catapult, but duck quickly under our right arms stepping backwards.

*shrug* You'll have to lead then.
I generally find that a salsa cross-body lead (to ceroc timing, of course) tends to do the trick, surprise-wise. Simple but effective. Also sorts out the good followers, so allows me to judge the level of my partner for the rest of the dance and alter my style / moves appropriately. And I like the move
