Aye: I love it when that works - it's a favourite of Kim, a local JazzJive teacher. I do find it very difficult, though: I often find myself trapping the girl's left arm in front of us, rather than having it resting on my shoulder, as is traditional. Alternatively, the girl is so convinced that the move should end with us facing each other, that she "runs away". In the end, I find the move works best on women for whom it is not a surprise.Originally Posted by DavidB
As you come in and 'catch' the lady, lean away from her (from the waist*). If you provide enough space, then the arm doesn't get caught, and then you can straighten up at the end, into the closed position.Originally Posted by MartinHarper

Use with great caution on carefully chosen partners! These are moves I do about three times a year.
A move for the ladies that like spinning:-
Start like First Move until the lady steps back on RHS.
Raise Right hand behind her back to bra strap height, inserting the fingers of the right hand between her body and around the muscles on her upper arm.
Use that arm as a lever to spin her backwards behind you, whilst you half turn to face.
--------
Use even more rarely, only with partners that you know very well, with substantial belts, and even more substantial senses of humour and powers of forgiveness if it goes horribly wrong:
Push lady away, pull back on waistband, step swiftly in front of her to catch hands.
Dip her...then pull her hair
you may not get another dance though!Originally Posted by Zebra Woman
Someone gathered my hair in his hand and used it to pull me down into a dip. It was intended as a dominantly sexy move and I felt it was far too personal! and I was wildly angry!
For ladies that do not like slow combs:
go into a comb, but as your hands are coming to rest on your right shoulder let go and send the lady into a push spin by pushing on her right arm, spinning yourself. The mixture of surprise and relief usually gets a smile.

Oh no Diana that sounds horrible, I wouldn't want to be pulled anywhere by my hair, poor you .Originally Posted by DianaS
Of course 'hair pulling' like dips has to be with a known partner and agreed in advance.
Just thought of another surprise....
Dip her, then take a handful of hair.....but don't pull it
Does this simile not take diesels like yourself into account?!?!!?Originally Posted by Heather

Interesting this.Originally Posted by DianaS
I wonder if the person who did this had read Lory's post from a few months back where something like this happened to her - but in a way that she liked.
If so, then he was an example of the kind of muppet who sees/hears of another guy doing something that goes down well, and decides to copy it on the sadly mistaken assumption that the ladies will automatically like it just as much from him, as they might have from the original guy, and so proceeds to mimic without sensitivity.
It's often the excuse that pervs come out with - "Other guys dance UCP with her so why shouldn't I..." (duh ), and I suspect it's the same kind of thing.

As a new com(b)er to the whole hair-pulling thing, that strikes as an AMAZING move, to do with the right partner at the right time. But if either partner or time is wrong, it strikes as plain ol' nasty. (is there a smillie to represent a horrible shiver going down the spine?!?)Originally Posted by DianaS
That said, my last hair pulling episode wasn't ENTIRELY uncomfortable, as I had some stuck in Alison's shoe...
I am rather fond of this move, too: particularly with novice-ish dancers that are not beginners but don't seem at ease with comb (you regrettably notice as you are on your way there... )Originally Posted by bigdjiver
It just stank of sexual aggression! I felt that the use of force (even implied force) was vile, and not something that I was consenting to on or off the dance floor.Originally Posted by Ceroc Jock

Yes. I think that would really surprise her. Especially if you pulled her hair to help you get them there....Originally Posted by Ceroc Jock
