The Look

All it took was just one look
And all the words I had saved, died inside
With just a single glance and in that moment
They were trapped forever in the past
The last chance gone
For there are no words now
To say what I needed to say
The unspoken ones left hanging by a thread
I left them to dangle there
For I could not even say goodbye in the end
It lay crushed in my chest, squashed, broken
It would never have been enough
And though a million words could never say
What was going through my mind
All it took was just one look
To silence them forever
For now I understand
And It really doesn’t matter
Anymore..

Re: A Thread For The Budding Poets/writers Etc..

Jan said I should post the poem I wrote a while back... Not sure she's seen it yet though...

Cos' I'm hopeless at writing poems myself, this one is a collage of lots of other poems I found on the web – sometimes just a few words, sometimes a few more, but not all the joins are obvious. I wrote it for an "Arty Farty Poetry Party", and it won the prize as the most arty-farty poem.

In case it's not obvious, it's not meant to make sense – at least, not as a whole... Oh, and the weird font stuff was part of making it look arty-farty as well.

Enjoy!

What Colour Is Poetry?

(Reading not aloud)

we are both there or not there
embrace nothing

and she yeah she
stuck him good, like he was a
balloon...you shoulda seen
his face pop, like one second
he was in it and the next

soaring high
above the flood.
I see the bedraggled bodies
floating beneath, and think of each:

descartes, hume, kant are
my instruments I play
them well
but women dig guitars

whisper your love beneath the bitter rose
bare beauty as delicate as death
I lust after your shadow

Thank you Ducasi xx

Feeling like a Child

This funny feeling I can’t name
This crushing weight inside
Consumes me like a forest fire
Never leaves me for a moment
With the grip of a python
And the strength of a lion
It holds me spellbound
Even in my dreams

It makes my heart beat out of time
I sometimes wonder if I will die
Out of control and racing wild
With no brakes to hold me back
I hold on for dear life
On a rollercoaster of a ride
All my senses screaming
That’s when I feel like a child

Without defence, with nowhere to turn
That’s when you hold me tight
And I can fight those fears
When peace and calm returns
And my soul is quiet again
I hold on with both hands for a moment
Look around me and realise
That I am not a child

The Magician

You are an illusion
A room filled with magic mirrors
Distorted, twisted, false
You are not who you said you were
Did I see the other side of you?
I glanced through the holes in your walls
Beyond your very public face into your eyes
The person hidden from the world
Always on your guard from the pain
Concealed by bravado and your alter ego
Painted smile on your frozen lips
A clown parading, laughing, lying
Dying inside, whilst reality bites
And eats away at your very soul
It is a First Class Act
I did think I knew you for a while
But you disappeared without a trace
With a flourish and wave of your hand
When The Final Act came, the curtain fell
The Grand Exit,
The applause died
And the music faded away
Leaving a very empty space
Filled with silence and confusion
I gave you all that I had to give
It was the kind of magic I could have believed in
But no one really knows you
You are just an Illusion
And a stranger after all
Especially to yourself

Guardian Angel

You held out your hand, and I took it in mine
You led the way forward, I followed, then blind
I gave you my trust, and you just seemed to know
When I stumbled so lost and was feeling so low
You picked me up gently and smiled that kind smile
You knew that I needed your help, for a while
Your love and your wisdom were there at the start
It faded quite quickly, but stayed in my heart
You came like a breath of fresh air in my storm
A bright shining star at the break of the dawn
But just like a comet, you faded away
And left me alone to find my own way
I still feel the warmth of you hand in my hand
Whenever I’m frightened and sinking in sand
I just close my eyes and remember a time
I wasn’t alone and you were still mine
You gave me such hope and the will to go on
I miss you my friend, now that you have gone
A beautiful chapter in the book of my life
An absence that hurts and still cuts like a knife
I know the next pages I will write on my own
The truth is I know I’m not really alone..

Your Song

Play your song for me
Once more
And as I hold my breath
Play gently, slowly, lovingly
Music for my heart and soul
Music for my lonely mind
Hold me spellbound for a time
And as I watch, the world stops turning
Fingers playing deftly, knowingly
With a mind of their own
Let me adore you, admire you
For I too am in your hands
Under your spell, struck dumb
Play for me only
Just for a while
Whilst the world disappears around me
And the tears form in my eyes
Caught in a web of mystery
Adoration and bliss
Until, finally you cease
The world starts turning
I can breathe again
And reality
Reigns once more

Re: A Thread For The Budding Poets/writers Etc..

After such a wonderful day.. dedicated to the 'Hug' Threads..

It Only Takes a Moment..

I walk along these crowded streets
They’re lonely and so cold,
Where no one cares, no one shares
No love at all is showed
These people blank and distant
Walk on their daily paths
Staring at the ground below
Not caring.. No one laughs
Mournful eyes stare dead ahead
With worry and despair
Their faces grey and lifeless
It seems like no one cares

I catch the eye of a passer-by
And give a little smile
And hope to make a difference
I guess that’s just my style
Some people think I’m crazy
And hurry past in fear
Why does it scare the people so?
When love is all that’s here?
I could not change this world of ours
No matter how I tried
We could if we all did something small
Walk together side-by-side

So when you’re down, or lonely
And life seems hard to bear
Just look around your world today
There IS something we can share
We can all make a difference
Just change your point of view
Don’t be afraid to show you care
Be brave and show you do!
Yes, we CAN change someone’s day
By giving them a smile
Imagine what a hug could do
Just go that extra mile...!

Hiya,

Been browsing these forums for a while and am addicted to Dancing. This thread has inspired me to post this one I wrote for my ex-girlfriend while we were at two ends of the planet.

The food has no taste,
It does not nourish me,
Water does not quench my thirst,
Music does not interest me,
My breath does not rejuvenate me.

For my heart and my soul is not with me,
You; are not with me.

Our night doesn't end at sunrise
Our love doesn't end at dawn
The stars in the skies are hid from our eyes
but love goes on and on.

On and on, on and on.

To forgive is sometimes human
To err is oft divine
I've erred and I've erred and sometimes heard
that you're no longer mine

You're not mine, you're not mine.

But our year cannot end in winter
covered in ice and snow
This wound is but a splinter
and onwards we will go

We will go, we will go.

So forgive my sins my darling
and listen to my song
They're but a passing weakness
love's forever strong

Our love is strong, our love is strong.

Thank You, she said,
Thank you for the dance.

Thank You, I said,
Thank you very much.

For brightening my day with you smile,
For making for forget my worries,
To take me away from the illusion of this world,
and into the depths of your eyes.

Thank You, I said,
Thank you very much.

For freeing me from the shackles of this world,
And liberating my heart and soul,
When I love you as I do,
I feel joy in everything I do.

Thank You, I said,
Thank you very much.

For the pain that I feel that you are not mine,
The sadness every time you walk away,
The sorrow when you say goodbye,
and the longing when you are away

Thank You, I said,
Thank you very much.

For all the joy I feel when you are near,
For all the pain I feel when you are far,
For all the love I feel for you always,
and I am grateful that I feel these for You.

Thank You, she said,
Thank you for the dance.

Release

I can’t feel your pain
But I can see it and hear it
Hot, Scalding tears prick the back of my eyes
Frustrated, helpless and alone
I am here for you
I recognise your agony
I can see your dark despair
Like a trapped animal
No escape
Asking for help, pleading
Begging for a way out
But you are in their hands
I am powerless to help
With nowhere to turn
Powerless, afraid
Free him from his pain
Let sleep take him forever
Give him peace and dignity
For all of time
Freedom at last

Secrets in The Night

Still the night
Wispy trails of vapour
Cross the hazy, winter moon
Like the clouds across my eyes
When you are near
Misty eyed, dreaming
As the stars blink gently
In the silky, black night
Skin tingling with the knowledge
Of your presence
Cool breeze, chill and crisp
Strokes my skin
Soft and secret
Every hair standing on end
Each nerve begging to be caressed
With slow, loving, featherlike touches
Dark is the night
With all its secrets
Yours and mine..

Re: A Thread For The Budding Poets/writers Etc..

The sun is shining,
through beautiful blue skies,
lying here on this sand,
the cool breeze caresses me.

The beach whispers softly,
as the waves lap the shore,
and kiss my feet.

The birds sing a lullaby,
as I fall,
as I fall gently,
gently to sleep.

How this universe loves me,
a whole sun to keep me warm,
a whole ocean to sing to me,
the birds to add a melody,
the breeze to keep me cool,
a breeze to hug me softly.

And if thats not enough,
it gave me you,
so you may break my heart,
and let me see.

To fall in love is the greatest joy,
To fall in love is the adventure in itself,
To fall in love,
not just with you,
not just with your actions,
but with everything that is,
To fall in love with the whole universe.
With existence itself.

To fall in love with the adventure,
the adventure that is life.

Cat & Mouse

As I was walking away
I turned, I couldn’t resist
Just to see if you noticed my retreat
You looked the other way, deliberately
As though I didn’t exist anymore
That was no surprise
After all, there was someone else now
A replacement, another victim
The same look in your eye
Intent, interested and ready to pounce
Reminding me of a cat toying with a mouse
Daring, teasing, cruel
I had to look away
It was all too familiar
I had seen it all before, many times
That ‘smile’; that ‘look’
Love is just a game to you
Always a challenge
Me? I keep walking away
No more the mouse
Soon to be the Cat

Hands Of Time

There are lines now
Where the used to be none
Time has etched them there
Over the learning years
Whilst I wasn’t looking
Sneaking slyly, quietly
Behind my back
And all of a sudden
My smile is changing
My frown, my laugh
Changing me on the outside
Not reflecting
The truth inside
STOP THE CLOCK!
Inside I am still a child
Still growing
Still learning
Not ready to face
The Hands of Time

Lovers’ Kiss

My lovers’ kiss
As soft and warm as the summer rain
Caressing, gentle, intoxicating
Hypnotised, mesmerised
So completely under his spell
Misty-eyed, bewitched
Soft, tender lips touching
Tracing a delicious slow path
A secret path
Over and over
Till one cannot breathe
For fear of losing
This feeling
Overwhelmed
Breathless
Surrender
Bliss
Is my lovers’ kiss

Missing you

Remembering the days gone by
I look back with a heavy sigh
With feet that feel a heavy weight
That drag behind me, make me late
Looking down the twisted road
And carrying my heavy load
I look up to the sky and see
The future looking back at me
The weight I carry is the past
With all my hopes and dreams downcast
On my shoulders bearing down
A weight that means that I could drown
Under dark and bleak despair
I stumble along, I know not where
Again I look to the sky above
And question what on earth is Love
The clouds part briefly overhead
I recognise where this path has led
It seems I was here long ago
With you my friend, we both were low
We talked until the rain had gone
The sun came out and how it shone
The dazzling rainbow in the rain
Gave us hope and numbed our pain
As I stand on this familiar track
Feeling the weight lessen on my back
I share it all with you dear friend
You are not here, but it’s not the end
You are with me when I’m in need
That day you planted a little seed
Of hope and love that was to come
If I’d be patient, wait for the sun
And as I feel its warming rays
I hear your voice from distant days
Telling me to take things slow
You will be with me, wherever I go
‘’Take it Easy, Do Not Worry’’
‘’In this life you must not hurry’’
And as we know when the rain has gone
A rainbow shines, birds sing their song
So my dear friend, who I can’t see
It seems you really are with me
Although I miss you on my path
I can look back and have a laugh
And Oh, how foolish I can be
When days are dark with misery
I have to look up to the skies
And remember the mischief in your eyes
So missing you can do some good
Reminds me that I really should
Keep walking down that twisted road
And learn to bear each heavy load
And when it gets too hard to bear
That’s when I know I have to share
Our Friends are there, this we know
To carry you on, when you are low

This is a bit of long one..

Re: A Thread For The Budding Poets/writers Etc..

Been at it again...

Let Them Go

To love someone and let them go
Is something that I didn’t know
A lesson learned through all the years
A lesson filled with many tears
I thought that love was holding on
And realised that when it was gone
That I had played a major part
That knowledge tore and broke my heart
It lasted to that final mile
My vice-like grip with tender smile
Holding on and praying hard
That we would last that final yard
Through all those tears and bitter fights
Those lonely days and endless nights
The hope was there it couldn’t die
Until the day I said goodbye
I realised then I loved too much
Caged him, if you like, as such
I’d wrap him up in cotton wool
Protect him like he was a fool
Take away his dignity and pride
When he faltered, how I lied
And lost him as I’m sure you’ll see
With too much love, no dignity
This time around I’ve changed my ways
My fear has gone from those past days
What I have learned to date is this
(It all starts with that first kiss!)
It ends in tears, if you don’t know
To love someone, is to Let Them Go

Who but you my love,
Can brighten my day,
The saddest of days,
The hardest of days,
The most frustrating days,
With but a smile.

Who but you my love,
Can make me feel rich,
When I have lost,
All that I had built,
With my blood, sweat and tears,
When you embrace me.

Who but you my love,
Of all the people,
In the whole wide world,
Who but you my love,
Can break my heart.

Sitting here quietly,
At the railway station of life,
Quietly watching lovers and friends,

As they say their fond farewells,
As they pray for the train to be delayed
so they may spend another minute together,
just one more minute,
just one more second.

As they wait with baited breath,
For the train to arrive,
So they may say their enthusiastic hello's.

I am not sad,
that I sit here alone,
for I love you,
with all my heart,
and it matters not,
not a little bit,
that you do not love me.
