Re: A Thread For The Budding Poets/writers Etc..

Somedays are spent staring straight ahead,
    Looking nowhere but,
the small square in front of me.

    The square does not talk,
    The square does not interact,
    My mind works overtime,
    Screaming for some stimulation,
Receiving only the mind numbing monotony.

    Dull dreary times wasting away,
Doing what it takes to survive.

To understand what it takes to build
My future. To do what it takes
To leave, and build a life of truth.
    To be sought after,
    To fly,
    To travel,
    To be in demand.
    To inspire.

    I lay my hopes bare,
I give my dreams a chance.
Asking another to help it along,
    Knowing only the path,
    Watching it wind away.

These are the best days, these are the worst days.
How can I tell when I succeed in existing from one moment to the next.
Dreaming of a path of freedom.

    I was at work

mmm....guess who spent an awful lot of time on the beach...

    The Beach

    Acid blue sky blinding
Haze of sun on sand uprising
Cool white foam rolls up the shore
Shells and pebbles dot the floor
Hot sun burning my skin raw
Keep on walking, find that door
The door to another space and time

Acid blue sky deep and clear
Reaching out to see and hear
Feel the colour with my skin
    Touch the coolness deep within
Keep on walking ‘til I’m in
    Solitude is not a sin
Trying to find some space and time

Acid blue sky a bottomless hole
The hot sand burns my toes and soul
Dry and thirsty, keep on walking
    Always listening, never talking
Searching for someone to trust in
Wishing that I could forget him
Just need some precious space and time

Acid blue sky I can’t reach
Sun bakes dry the sandy beach
No where left to run and hide
I’ll keep searching far and wide
For someone I can walk beside
Be my mentor, be my guide
And share with me my space and time

Acid blue sky turns to grey
Clouds roll in to end the day
Soft breeze cools the golden sand
Sun sinks down below the land
My burning skin is gently fanned
I feel that someone take my hand
And leads me to that place in time..

Now you know what I spent my time doing on the beach... yeah.. just writing...

    Cupboard Love

In the cupboard next to my bed
You know, the one beside my head
The one I lock and hide the key
The one for no one’s eyes but me
    Photos’ maps and other things
Right next to my old wedding rings
Things in the past, but not forgot
It seems I’ve collected quite a lot!

The one’s I prize above the rest
Hid deep within my ‘treasure chest’
Are not the one’s held in my hand
They’re hard to hold like grains of sand
The ones where I can close my eyes
To recall all the days gone by
I don’t need photographs for this
To feel your arms and know your kiss

Where memories I have are pure
No one else sees them for sure
I’ll keep them here right by my bed
Locked in my room, inside my head
So when I’m feeling down and blue
I pick up all the ones of you
    I haven’t put them in a frame
But I still love them all the same

    Sleeping Wide Awake

I just can’t sleep and how I try
I pretend the ceiling is the sky
The wind outside’s the balmy sea
    The constant sound bewitches me
The streetlights are the blinking stars
I try to ignore the passing cars!
This void inside, this constant ache
Feels like I’m sleeping Wide Awake
The shadows dancing on the wall
Are growing, making me feel small
Outside the wind blows thru’ the trees
They bend and dance so hauntingly
The moon and stars pass thru’ the sky
Play hide and seek as clouds go by
Sometimes I feel my bones are chilled
My waking dreams and nightmares build
And then at last dawn starts to break
By then my bones and body ache
I get some peace inside my head
It’s then I sleep as though I’m dead!!

Yes.. am still having trouble sleeping.. getting a bit better now tho' (written at 4.30am one morning )

    Rainbow Sunset

    Coolest blues with violet haze
Pale gold tipped with rosy glaze
    Silver grey with purple streams
Weave the fabric of your dreams
The setting sun an angry red
Drops down and hides its fiery head
And as it trickles out of sight
Is eaten by the hungry night
Cotton clouds of pinks and golds
    Drift away as night unfolds
Velvet blue sky turns to black
The new moon riding on its back

phew... methinks enough for one day..

Your writing has a charismatic point of view,
seeing the world almost as though it's over exposed.
There's a simplicity in the rhyme that makes the world around you almost surreal, and yet, I can see you looking sharply at it as though you see what you must do, who you want to see, but you feel that person although right next to you, is a thousand miles away.

It's lovely work. Keep it up.
Most peoples poetry is the window into their feelings,
On the surface, a bubbly charismatic character arises,
below the surface, a carefully measured, calculated creature abides.

I can't do poetry. I write , but it's more cr*ppy short stories or a myriad of started and as yet unfinished / abandoned novels.

so I am in AWE with Jacksondonut's work..

Thank you... I love the way you have analysed me(!) if that is the right word.. You have hit the nail on the head in quite a few places, and YOUR intuition is what I find amazing.. I could never have written in the same way, or have been able to put into words how I saw/see myself/my writing.

Picking up a pen after 30 years (ish) was something I could not have done without inspiration from a dear friend. Would never have been brave enough.
    My thanks to that person

If this helps ONE person realise their dream(s), I feel it has been worth me putting myself in a position of vulnerability.. that is reward enough.

    Today's offerings..

    WHO am I?

    I don't know who I am I shout
You have turned my inside out
I'm upside down and back to front
My black is white, my day is night
    WHO am I?

You have me climbing up the walls
    Spinning, turning, chilled and burning
I'm found then lost, so what's the cost?
The world's stopped turning, stomach's churning
    WHO am I?

You are to me like life and death
I suffocate and have no breath
My heaven and hell, my sight and smell
My hot and cold, my bought and sold
    WHO are you?

You're a bitter wind, an angel sinned
A devil in hell, a chiming bell
A rainbow and a violent storm
    A frozen heart, a smile that's warm
    WHO are you?

You are the sunshine and the rain
Some sanity in my crazy brain
An oasis in the desert heat
The burning coals beneath my feet
    WHO are you?

I'm in the dark and slipping fast
    In circles racing, coming last
A lifetime spent in a brief moment
I'm buried in sand, please hold my hand
    WHO am I?

A blinding light, then crushing dark
Then cooling embers, last dying spark
I'm drowning slow and sinking low
Dark eyes I see, then sleep grabs me
    WHO are you?

    Slipping Away

I saw you smile across the room
My eyes were drawn and I was lost
I couldn't take my eyes away
    No matter what it cost

    The seconds became minutes passing
    The minutes slipped away
The hours I spent just waiting
    Were wasted on that day

    I'm hypnotised and mesmerised
    bewitched and turned to stone
    I couldn't move a step that day
I was rigid to the bone

Your beauty took my breath away
    My heart was stolen too
    I couldn't say a single word
    Struck dumb because of you

I lost my heart and soul that day
    I also lost my mind
It didn't matter what I lost
    It mattered what I'd find

I'd trade the world for just one smile
To spend some time with you
You're just a dream I dreamed one day
A dream that can't come true...

Last one today.. getting tired now...

    Summer’s Gone

Summer’s gone and I’m still here
The beach deserted ‘til next year
I walk the way we used to walk
Remember how we used to talk?
The litter drifts across the sand
But no ones here to hold my hand

The Seagulls own the beach again
    Crying though they’ve gone insane
I watch them as the soar up high
As clouds roll in and fill the sky
The ocean then turns murky grey
An icy wind surrounds the bay

I wrap my clothes around me tight
And walk as though you’re in my sight
With fish and chips and apple pies
With candy floss and laughing eyes
    Toffee apples and sunny smiles
For you my love transcends the miles

    phew.....

I dug up and old one (one I actually dated for once... I must remember to do that more often)

    29/11/05

    As I wait here,
    in the light
I see a new pathway, a new laughter,
I cannot go back, I can only go forward.

    Smiling on the moon,

    Howling at the sky

Seeing the bay light up as the clouds clear,
Casting it's mad light over all under it's spell. The water moving at great
length as the irresistable pull of the mass moves the substance.
The liquid moves like an aura,
    Shaping clolours not yet experienced.
Colours of new and inspiring feeling.
    Expressing how the heart feels.
Erupting out of the cage and onto the nearest bidder.
This was the path I chose.
I can only express my happiness.
through the tears streaming down my face.

    For today...

    Enough

I don’t need to feel your skin on my skin
    Your hand in my hand
    Your breath on my cheek
I don’t need you to be here when I am lonely in the night
    Or having a good time
I don’t need you to hold me up when I am down
Carry me when I lose my way
Or catch me when I fall
I don’t need you to say you love me
Need me, want me, miss me
    All I need
Is to remember the warmth of your embrace
The smile on your face and in your eyes
All I need to know is that you are simply there
    And that you are ok
    It is enough
    And all that I need

Please tell me there's an afterlife.

    Forbidden Dreams

I sit here reflecting, glass in my hand
Our hour has passed, alone I must stand
It never was, though it so should have been
    Our banished love, forbidden dream.

I opened life's window, with the breeze in you flew.
Like a morning in May, like the flowers so true.
I learned form you, things are not what they seem.
    Our banished love, forbidden dream.

Safe in your eyes, lost and, yet, found
The smile on ur lips, your voice's own sound
haunting my mind with what should have been
    Our banished love, forbidden dream.

It's bed time I fear, for I know I must wake
another day facing this lonely heart ache
I ask how the hell did I fail to redeem
    Our banished love, forbidden dream?

My will to live diminished, I wait for my death
Each respiration, I pray's my last breath
For the courage I ask, to use my own steam
To join our banished love, our forbidden dream

Re: A Thread For The Budding Poets/writers Etc..

    Thank You

Thinkin' 'bout when I was young I had U on a pedestol
I always used to run straight home And show U what I'd learned at school

I shared with you my innocence, my lack of understanding
U shared with me your wisdom, in the places I was lacking

To count, to read to tie my shoes, U'd patiently coax me along
U showed me grace, humility, love, what's fair, what's right. what's wrong

U tugged my strings when I flew too high, U lifted me when I was low
In the time we had together, U'd share all there was to know
I thought we'd last forever, how was I to know??

That for your couarage, spirit and strength, U were bound for a higher place
Where He was waitng to reward U for your love, humility and grace

The biggest thing U taught me was "Where there's a will, there's a way."
And that is why your spirit lives in ym heart today.

I realise it's my turn ro teach the young as I get old.
And if I have my doubts or lose my way, I see you on the pedestol.

In our short time together, I never showed my gratitude
For being there, with a smile, no matter what U were going through.
My only hope is it's not too late: "With all my heart, thank you."
