Portable dancefloors are hire items through the marquee and banqueting industries. Usually they are 900mm square (ish) and have to be laid carefully on a flat floor. Ask Wes Stala about the floor at Southport!

Grays of Exeter were a hire co in south Devon they may help (sorry its a few years ago I used their services there may have been changes. )

In intensely seasonal places the price may depend on the date, Also dont be surprised if they are delivering the floor an hour before the party and collecting it at the end as your guests leave.

(the marquees fron Sidmouth festival were struck at 0400 after the last event and were re rigged at Honniton for Devon County show by 0700 that day!)

When we did busks up in Manchester we used to use plywood.

Im no carepenter but I suppose if you got a few big sheets of plywood and joined them together with strips of plywood that would make a suitable dance floor. I do remember the temporary ones we used to use were better than most permanent dance floors in some venues

Of course, you still need a perfectly flat surface to lay it on.

Had a garden party last weekend and put down a temporary dance floor. It was made up of four 8 x 8 frames bolted together with 8 x 2 tongued & grooved treated chip board screwed to the frames.

    Worked well

    Cool floor
Did you cut the beams for the base? If you did it must have taken ages?

    Re: Temporary dancefloor

Quite often new venues attract extra large crowds. I believe that Ceroc Central are going to augment the dance floor at their new venue in Shepreth with a temporary dance floor to cater for any first night rush. Anybody interested in such dance floors might want to go along to check it out.
