"Whenever life gets you down Mrs. Brown
and things seem hard or tough
and people are stupid, obnoxious or daft
and you feel that you've had quite enough!

Just remember that you're standing on a planet thats evolving
revolving at nine-hundred miles an hour
it's orbiting at ninety miles a second, so it's reckoned
a sun that is the source of all our power

the sun and you and me and all the stars that we can see
are moving at a million miles a day

in an outer spiral arm at forty-thousand miles an hour
of the galaxy we call the Milky Way

Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars
its a hundred thousand lightyears side to side
it bulges in the middle, sixteen-thousand lightyears thick but out by us its just three-thousand lightyears wide

We're thirty-thousand lightyears from galatic central point
we go round every two-hundred-million years
and our galaxy is only one of millions of billions in this amazing and expanding universe.

    musical interlude

The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding in all of the directions it can whiz
as fast as it can go the speed of light you know twelve million miles a minute and thats the fastest speed there is
so remember when you're feeling very small and insecure how amazingly unlikely is your birth
and pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space
cause there's bugger all down here on Earth"
Legend...that is clessic but not as good as:

You mother Was a hamster and you Farther Smelt of Elderberries!!!

In my opinion Alien and Aliens was good Alien 3 suck and Alien resurrection kinda destroyed the whole 'alien' thing for me, it was fine as a trilogy.

    Re: Favourite Movie Quotes

this is where I show how sad I am and do this from memory..

    the opening Monologue from Dune

"A beginning is a very delicate time
Know then, that is is the year Ten thousand One ninety one
The known universe is ruled by the Padishah Emperor Shaddam the Fourth, my father.
In this time the most precious substance in the universe is the Spice Melange.
    The Spice extends life.
    The Spice expands consciousness.
The Spice is vital to space travel.
The Spacing Guild and its navigators, who the spice has mutated over 4000 years, use the orange spice gas which gives them the ability to fold space.
That is, travel to any part of the universe without moving.
    (fade out... fade back in)
Oh, yes. I forgot to tell you.
The Spice exists on only one planet in the entire universe. A desolate, dry planet with vast deserts.
Hidden away within the rocks of these deserts are a people known as the Fremen who have long held a prophecy that a man would come
a messiah, who would lead them to true freedom.
The planet is Arrakis, also known as Dune.

Cue opening music.. massive orchestral score by Brian Eno

I have three different versions of the Dune movie on DVD , the Dune Mini series and the Children on Dune mini series (and all the books naturally)

I do get told off for joining in the monologue when I watch the movie..

me ? A sad nerdy shmuck? Guilty as charged... I'll get my coat (or is it an Anorak? )

    Re: Favourite Movie Quotes

From three 70's movies - no fun googling or IMDbing them! OK, so it's turned into a quiz again.

None of them were quotable movies to be honest, but they're all great movies IMHO...

    "Bride to Valley Forge"

    Yup.

"Bombed out in Space with a Spaced-Out Bomb" was the tagline for the posters

Nope, not seen it... A bit like Clueless, I quite liked the first two, but got bored with the later ones...

Talking of Clueless... A favourite quote...

    – My plastic surgeon doesn't want me doing any activity where balls fly at my nose.
    – Well, there goes your social life.
Let your mind go and your body will follow. – Steve Martin, LA Story

Hell yeah! sorry gungho for a moment there

A² is quite superb - I iron watching A²
I wouldn't say the acting was wooden in the DirectorsCut it was obviously looking to humanise Ripley but tends to slow down and stop the action. The sentry Guns though are 100% tension fantastic.

I can't watch the bloke who played Burke now on the telly without wanting to punch his lights out

Of course I am also transparent and Ms Weaver would definitely get it!

Give that man a greenhouse in space.

The last one is not a science fiction film:

"You can't beat me on the grade. You can't beat me on the grade!"

Clue: grade = gradient. And he's almost wrong.

I did a "which Firefly character are you?" online quiz and came out as Jayne. Be afraid.

Film-wise, "I say we nuke the site from orbit - it's the only way to be sure" is one of my all-time favourites - and a must for so many situations.

    Re: Favourite Movie Quotes

From the greatest film of all time (and I'll duff up anyone who disagrees):

"There was a demon that lived in the air. They said whoever challenged him would die. Their controls would freeze up, their planes would buffet wildly, and they would disintegrate.

The demon lived at Mach 1 on the meter, 750 miles an hour, where the air could no longer move out of the way. He lived behind a barrier through which they said no man could ever pass. They called it The Sound Barrier.

Then they built a small plane, the X-1, to try and break The Sound Barrier. Men came to the high desert of California to ride it. They were called Test Pilots. And no one knew their names."

    Anyone recognise it??

    Re: Favourite Movie Quotes

    Sounds like The Right Stuff.

Can't be sure, as I haven't seen it in a very long time. Good film (I will say no more than that, in case I'm risking violence)
