Yes - Don't go near horses again ever.

They can be unpleasant at times. For many years I have tried to overcome my natural aversion to horses, but they keep giving me bad horsey experiences.

Why not buy another fish ?

I hope this useful advice is a refreshing change from the rest of the posts on this thread!!

No that is NOT RIGHT! no one wants to go to hospital.. no one likes being ill but if you're ill your ill and if your injured then you NEED TO SEE A DOCTOR. if you don't want to go to A&E at least try and get into see your GP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

Dee, I think there is a general consensus here:

    GO TO A&E NOW!!!!!

You really have to make sure your thumb is ok because if you don't, you may disfigure it for good.

You may lose 4 hours at the hospital or the use of your thumb for life - it is your choice

got to add my two cents worth here - GO to A&E!!!!! pins and needles is not good. large swelling in your hand can cause nerve damage via the pressure it causes and if not treated the damage can be permeant even treated it can take weeks to months for the pressure to ease off and the nerve to return to normal.

I learnt about this nerve damage the hard way and am lucky finally after 2.5 months all numbness is gone!

I know I will cause horror amongst the A&E protaganists, but I qualify my view by experience the fact I have gone through the same thing several times over the years due to my penchant jumping off swow covered mountains(strap it then jump off again). Fair to say my right thumb joint is not pretty but hey, lifes too short.

I have to say from my all my previous dislocation experiences, all your symptoms are in common with a severe sprain as a result of dislocation. The pins & needles thing is, common too, you get that because the swelling around the heal of the hand presses on the Carpal nerve. You should be continuing with ice, you need to be taking Ibuprofen not paracetamol.

Dee, whatever you do its still gonna hurt like bl88dy hell for a number of weeks, whether you choose to lose the will to live by sitting in A&E for basically the same advice or you choose get back on horse today.

All the more reason for an A&E trip.

But proper medical advice would be even better.

All very true, but all too often, the faster you get proper treatment for it, the faster it will recover. Just leaving it and hoping for the best will result in the most amount of pain for the longest period of time. I have suffered from back problems for years because I didn't consult the right people when I should have. Do you really want to run that risk?

Re: Help me im in pain :-(

What with all the time you have spent asking for advice on the forum, going to the pharmacist for their advice, coming back, making an appointment with your GP, going to the surgery and waiting in the waiting room, meeting the GP (who is most likely to tell you to get to A & E anyway) and then making the journey back.......

You might as well have spent the 4 hours waiting in A & E and been done with it.

There is really no point canvassing for a wide range of advice if you always intended to dismiss a concensus unless it told you what you want to hear.

I am sorry to hear that you are in pain. Still, it's your thumb not mine. You are going to have to live with the consequences of your failure to act a whole lot longer than I am.

    Tough love.

Re: Help me im in pain :-(

Just got back from the seeing the nurse, she called in the doctor who confirmed i had dislocated it and as i had put it back in place there was no need to go to A&E he examined it which was more than painful and said nothing was broken but to keep trying to move it and hopefully it will all be ok in a few weeks he didn't want to strap it up as it would just make matters worse. The brusing is just starting to come out now but lets hope all will be ok in the end.

Thanks for all your advice and support i really appreciate it, even if i do hate going to A&E

Excellent - glad that you can now be on the mend without worrying about breakages. Keep that RICE going though.

    Arnica's good as well.

Reasonably accepted 'alternative' treatment for healing bruising (sprains and chill blains)

I use arnica all the time on bruises or possible bruises - helps reduce duration of damage significantly - don't travel with out it!
