Speak to Lily Barker - or maybe her hairdresser DavidBOriginally Posted by BigHeadedBeginner
Has anyone got any tips for putting up long hair so that it doesn't collapse scattering hair pins and clips across the floor halfway through the second dance?
The only thing that works for me is the ponytail, but not all men like being lashed across the face at every spin.....

1) Gather hair into ponytail
2) Fold ponytail back on itself
3) Fasten at base with scrunchie
Should be about 1/3 the length of your standard ponytail.
I find that half up half down lasts well - and doesn't do much damage to others.Originally Posted by BigHeadedBeginner

I recently danced with a girl who had slightly wavy hair, not in a pony tail.Originally Posted by ducasi

When I started last summer and it was hot I thought that putting my hair up in a pony tail would be good to keep cooler and get it out of the way - but it winds up in such a mess after a couple of turns under the guys arm where he just brushes the top of my head - caught sight of myself in the mirror one night and looked such a fright I was amazed that anyone would ask me to dance!
Leave it loose now. It's one excuse for missing a lead - blind as the proverbial bat!
Always wind up with a different hairstyle by the end of the evening though. Start out relatively calm and wind up with it all wild and curly...
Oh dear, that sounds just like me! Apologies on behalf of all long wavy haired women everywhere!Originally Posted by johnthehappyguy

Oh, you can also just tuck it into your shirt/T-shirt, if it's long enough.
If you want a more funky look buy little elastic hair bands and tie little bits of hair up. then twist and pin down.
Coat with bottle of hairspray, won't move for at least a week
OR
French Plait
Double French Plait
Shave it off

There was definitely another thread with some helpful tips on it... anyone care to post a link? (where's Gadget when you need him? )
I find this works best for me! It also always my head/neck to breath.Originally Posted by Yliander
I often gather the front sections and twist up to get a bit of height on top and then criss-cross with hairgrips. Leave the rest to hang - looks chic and trendy so long as you don't get too much height and end up with a bouffant like Patsy from Ab Fab....then nobody's gonna ask ya to dance!
John this definately sounds like me! I'm always getting told that my hair can act like a whip!!!!Originally Posted by johnthehappyguy
Once wore my hair in pigtails and apparently my partners were getting wacked twice!!!! Ooooops!
I usually wear my hair in a messy bun with my hair at the front twisted and pinned back with a little quiff! It looks quite funky (I think!) only uses 1 hair bobble and keeps it off my face and neck!
Ponytail is usual for me (but then my hair's only shoulder length, so not so dangerous - not completely safe though, believe me!) or sides clipped up at the back. Got to be careful what kind of clip though - most these days stand up away from the head and get knocked off by his arm when turning. I've got one that sits flat on the head, and have scoured all the local shops for more, but to no avail. Do like to wear it down to dance, but that means I'd have to wash it before I go out and am usually in too much of a hurry after getting home from work, doing dinner etc, but on 'special' occasions will wear it down.
I normally have mine up when practicing for comps, but like it loose for comps. To be honest, I can't bloody stand it in my face, esp in this heat as well, when it sticks to the back of your neck! Errrgggh. It's just GOT to go up then! But, does it ever stay there? Does it hell!! I've tried everything, from getting the bobble so tight they almost snap and clips that grip tightly but still work there way loose. (It's all this fast spinning that does it.. otherwise it's ok! ) If I leave it loose, I now pin the front bits up on the top of my head with some new diamonte grips (which are so tight, it's hard to get them in to start!) and spray over them with hair spray. This usually works. I got them after the first round at the ceroc champs, as the ones I bought before ended up falling out, and I ended up dancing with two clips sticking out each side of my head... what a bloody sight that must have been!
Unfortunately I suffer from "Leaky head syndrome" and my hair gets very sweaty Rather then tie it up and have wet hair I wear an alice band which keeps my hair off my face and neck and also keeps it looking relatively tidy. I still look a little hot and bothered by the end of the night but at least I'm somewhat presentable.
My alice band is a funky sixties/seventies print and has ties that go over my shoulder. £5 from Claires Accessories, bargain.
