Age is a question of mind over matter, if you don't mind, it doesn't matter
Leroy (Satchel) Paige (1906-1982)
Mickey Mouse's girlfriend, Minnie, made her film debut, along with Mickey, in "Steamboat Willie" on November 18, 1928.
That date is recognized as her official birthday.
now mostly dance without alcohol (see, sometimes I listen)Originally Posted by Minnie M
Hah, as to teaching people to flip 2 girls onto their shoulders.... hmm
Methinks that would be a VERY small workshop...
I've started going to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting everyweek ... I still drink, but just under a different nameOriginally Posted by Martin

MJ is part of what I consider my private / personal life
And for lots of reasons I like a degree of privacy
I don’t want my surname on the forum any more than I want my phone number or my address
Heh! It was purely by accident. There I was, very merrily going about my way, when things started to go wrong. I was basically heading for a breakdown! It's all a bit of a blur now, but it's an easy mistake to make when you think abut it A? A?Originally Posted by Martin

Given that I sign everything "Christopher", I'm quite happy with that. Ghost is cool too.
I can tell what mood a certain Forumite is in depending on whether she calls me Ghost or Christopher in posts though
As long as there aren't any photos of me on the Forum, I'm a happy bunny
Be Well,
Christopher

One of the nice things about this forum and MJ generally, is that dancers normally respect other dancers wishes
They may not agree, with what they do, say or post, but that's a different matter
But we live in a world of change
If the members of this forum think its OK to reveal member’s personal details with out their permission then I for one want no part of it
Is there more to all of this as in - 'belonging'.
i.e Belonging to a group
We all belong to the group that does this thing called dancing so we feel special, I hope.
But then, we want to feel more special and belong more, so we join sub groups, we opt for salsa, blues, lindy whatever or in this case, The Forum - where the members know who you are and refer to you in ways people outside the group can't. Like a secret club.
So we want to be known by our nicknames to keep the secret and continue to belong to the group? Seems logical to me.
Don't remember my old name anyway
Just as an aside I think Nicknames are a very blokey thing - work on a building site or in engineering and very few blokes are actually known by their names, more by their attributes or lack of them. Even at school the boys call each other by nicknames rather than use the real name. Women don't tend to do this probably because they wouldn't start a nickname incase it was hurtful whereas blokes just do it and be damned.
I love your stereotype that women (especially schoolgirls) so much more protective of each other's feelings than boys or men.Originally Posted by Trousers
I actually "Talk" to people more here than in real life (too busy dancing ) - I only know people by their forum handle. If you prefer to be called by something different, I appologise in advance.
Ok, great so we're all in agreement that we will call people by their forum alias or real name depending on what they want. So can we stop all the fuss and talk about something else now? Like...DANCING
sake man
Must say, MS, it is a very good subject to raise.
I fully agree and accept to only use names published. Some, such as myself, and Ghost, have nicknames, but often (if not always) sign with their real name, displaying a clear indifference as to which is used [ .... although I think that I probably prefer to have my real name used ... but it's not a big deal to me].
Private messages are, intuitively, a different matter, but would follow the same rule ... I've reply to PMs as they have been signed.
As an aside, I almost certainly will respond differently to those who use their (alleged) real name [ - can never tell on t'internet anyway!!]. I guess, rightly or wrongly, I have more trust in those who seemingly share their real name than those who don't.
I reserve this, as my right!!! So there!!!
All food f'thought innit!!

Come and lie on the couch ESG and tell us how you got from the words I wrote to bring up Schoolgirls? I'm certain I never mentioned them. Is there something you'd like to share here?Originally Posted by El Salsero Gringo

I preffer to be called by my name, its who i am, but i respect peoples wishes to be called by which ever name they want, cannot always guarantee to get it right ( Old age setting in) so good on you MsFab, at least this pole will sort out what people like to be called and honesty is by far the best policy, so you continue to be true to yourself, and ask for what you want, i see no problem with that at all, wish more people were that honest it would be a better world
Aw So nicely put hun and yet evry word so true (it must be the age wisdom thing) *ducks*Originally Posted by Raphael
