    "Latino Jive" ??

Simple question ... what is it?

Heard the phrase used by a number of Instructors across the North, who dont appear to have any contact with each other. Can't track town any originator style or guru who was its genesis.

Is it just a marketing term (being polite) or is there a solid identifiable dance style behind this label?

Jango ..... Latino Jive......... SwingJive....... what next

What is wrong with us .......... Jive is JIVE, the only reason to keep changing it's name has got to be commericalism, to us it is still good old JIVE

If you want to change it's name from Modern Jive, call it "Heinz57 Jive" as it must by now contain moves from all other jive styles

The beauty of our Modern Jive is that we can (when experienced) dance to ANY music. TWK was one of the first DJs I know of who pushed the limits and gave us great and challenging music and that is why some of us love him so much.

I can't track it down either. Someone obviously (like with any other form of dance) decided to mix a bit of latin and Jive together and call it latin jive or latino jive. (however many names there are for it ) but it looks as though it's been going for a good few years now and is very popular. With MJ not having much structure to it anyway, I think it's a good idea to bring the latin style into it so to make it look a bit different especially when a latin track comes on, it's useful. It seems WCS is popular at the moment too in the MJ world so again, (what they gonna call this then Swing Jive?) can look good if you get a swingy piece of music. There is nothing worse than watching MJ'rs look the same to every single track.... it's boring! But then I suppose that's up to them. If they're not fussed leave them to it. However, I love watching a couple get on the dance floor that can change their style to suit the music! You never get bored of watching them.

If you dance to the actual music your dancing should look different anyway Viktor has been teaching Salsa moves to Modern Jivers for years and Nigel has been introducing Lindy moves

SwingJive has been around for a couple of years, but it is Lindy+Modern Jive (Joseph & Trisha / James & Bridget and Simon Selmon teach it)

Dancing MJ in a slot (which many do already) could be called WestieJive

Yes that is something that should come naturally when feeling the music, but having done some latin it will make it look 10 times better.

I always assumed it was jive danced to music with a Latin flavour. Not really a dance style.

Ok, can you please give some examples of what you call a "dance style"?

I have heard the term, too. I believe LeBop in the land of OZ uses that phrase to describe their style.

The biggest myth in Jive! And the reason why there is so much bad dancing in Jive, people dance in spite of and not with the music.
When the rhythm changes to say a waltz, or a tango would you still Jive?

What challenging music did TWK play BTW?

"......would you still Jive" yes and why not, if you can hear the beat you can adapt your style to any music, that's the challenging bit - hence the title of this thread - However, you need to be a competant dancer and have a musical ear to be able to. Not so sure if I would want to dance MJ to a waltz though - wrong timing

Why not come along on Saturday to Funky Lush and hear (and see) for yourself

BTW IMHO Bad dancers dance badly to any music........ (it doesn't always show)

    Re: "Latino Jive" ??

Have heard the term many times but honestly thought it was referring to a particular manner in which jive was danced as opposed to being an actual style or type of dance.

You know, like adapting your style to suit the music?
