Last night was the first class run with the new teacher and new DJ.
There is a saying that "you don't know what you had until you lose it".
I think that sadly sums up the current situation !
At last nights class the announcement was made that DJ Funky Si and Teacher Kristen are leaving !
The class on April 26 will be their last appearance at Canterbury.
Things will never be the same again !
Kristen has done a great job as teacher having spent 2 years at Maidstone followed by 6 years at Canterbury.
Funky Si seems to have a blossoming career with a number of successful releases that he has produced and played on.
Both of them are great people - the best !
We wish them both well for the future in whatever they decide to do.

With that kind of 'welcome' I guess you dont want the venue to suceedOriginally Posted by Bigger Andy
I felt the same way when Kristen stopped teaching at Maidstone. She was/is an exceptional teacher and a truly lovely person. Any new teaching couple is going to find her a difficult act to follow especially as they do not yet have a similar place in our affections that Kristen had built up.
If your new teacher(s) do not yet have a great deal of teaching experience then they are going to have rough edges and make mistakes, just as Kristen did when she first started. I just hope that you can cut them some slack and allow them a "settling in" period where you could do your best to assist them settle in before you form a judgement on them.
As I said, we had similar feelings when Kristen stopped teaching at Maidstone and the period after was a disjointed sucession of temp teachers. Gordon and Sally took over the teaching at Maidstone and stayed and made a damm fine job of it and I feel that the vibe that used to be there has returned. So all is not lost and it may all come good again.
Kristen has a very demanding job and Funky Si has a music career that is taking off. How about we just be thankful that we had them for so long?
I think any teacher stepping into Kristen shoes would feel under a lot of pressure, myself included. For a newly trained teacher, I reckon it would be a very nerving experience.Originally Posted by Bigger Andy
Comments like this one, made after just one night will really help put them at ease.....NOT. (Gives up looking for appropriate smiley)
I really think that Bigger Andy should give it a chance...
As russ said Kristen is an awesome teacher and will be a hard act to follow.
I happened ti train with the person who took over and she is fabulous, give it time Andy and the venue will be the same as it used to be, only different
I think it is unfair to judge on one night.. its a new crowd and even cover teaching somewhere is hard. taking over full time must be a nightmare

As Chef said, Kristen ...Contrary to your comment, I very much want the venue to succeed. Why wouldn't I ?Originally Posted by Chef
I appreciate the fact that it is a good venue. As my local venue, and within walking distance, I also appreciate the convenience.
I don't know how you interpret this one comment as being a bad welcome or not wanting the venue to succeed !
Were you at the venue ? Do you know what sort of welcome they received ?
I was there to give my continuing support !
In fact, I feel that they both did a reasonable job in the circumstances and I wish them well for the future.
