RE:Hammersmith Comp 2006 - What is the format of the rounds?

    Hiya All,

RE: Hammersmith competition 2006 - What is the format of the rounds?

Hope you can throw some light on the below:

    1. How many rounds are there?
    2. Is it 2 songs per round?
    3. Is there a set format for the songs? (Ie slow 1st, then fast)

If it is dependant on the day, what has happened on previous years? I've never been, and I'm really looking forward to it!

    Cheers

Blimey how many threads do we need on The Hammersmith Champs?
There isn't really any straight answers to these questions. Usually 2 songs per round. As to rounds, it depends what category, as each ones different and it depends how many entrants there are. The songs are not always as obvious as one slow, one fast, it could be different genres. I know that was an extremely unhelpful post but at least i tried.

Read last years 'London Ceroc Champs' thread. In between Andy McGregor's 22 posts stirring it up, there's a wealth of info to answer everything that you can't be arsed to look up for yourself.....

I would put a link, but I can't be arsed either...

Silver mate.... Its not a case of "can't be Arsed" !!!!

That thought never occured to me!

Ok. I'll take a look at 2005 thread then.... but I'd be surprized if it answers the above questions..... why don't you scurry off and prove me wrong!

Seriously though. Good suggestion.... but while we are here.... can anyone save everyone a load for speculative seaching - with a ONE LINE answer to my questions above?

Well, there's usually lots of rounds in the intermediates, and not so many in advanced - I think quarter, semi then final. I think maybe the same for Open. Often 2 tracks with fast and not quite so fast, calling one slow is exaggerated I think. However, things can change year on year to adapt to changing trends (I hope).

Great dances on Saturday btw - wish I was competing with you.

Re: Hammersmith Comp 2006 - What is the format of the rounds?

Hi Marty, from memory in last years Ceroc Champs.

Intermediate. I seem to remember there were six rounds in total. First round and the final had two songs but the rest were only one song. I think the 1st song in the 1st round isn't judged as such, and seen as a warm-up. (Matt & Becki should remember!)

Being 6 rounds from a start of 60 couples, they don't cull too many from round to round (approx, 60,45,30,20,10,5). The final was slow then fast, although slow was pretty much medium and fast a little faster.

Advanced is the same but less rounds due to less couples. But can't remember the open format. Lucky Dip is two songs in round 1 (1st song warm up), and one song every round thereafter (including the final).

Good luck, hope you repeat your success from Blackpool, or at the least make it three finals out of your last three comps.

    Graham.

    Hiya Graham,

aww cheers mate! You're that tall chap who partnered with our Sharon in the DWAS heats in Brighton, and you went on to win with Yuko, aren't you? Well done to you as well!

It was so nice of you to cheer her on, later that night.

Best of luck to you and Louise as well in the intermeadiates! I understand you guys use to dance loads in the past - I hope you do great!

What a lovely thing to say Mary!

Marty and Sharon have worked very hard over the last year and this is their first year on the circuit. If there was an award for the fastest improvement and it would surely go to them. I would also like to give him an award for being one of the nicest Guys out there.....I shall never forget how lovely he was to Sharon when she had cramp at Brighton and couldn't make the final - she was in tears and he was so supportive, even when they found out from one of the Judges that they were top contenders for first place!

Not sure about this time around guys! ....er... no practising since Blackpool! ....We start again tonight!

I can't believe how quickly these competitions seem to come one after each other... I'm still a bit burn't out from the last one, and we are finding it hard to motivate each other.

Great motivational pep talk by ElaineB this morning tho.... you are the perfect competition guru young lady! I'm back on track!

I hope we do ourselves justice, and get into the later rounds. To be honest with you though, I hope we just enjoy the day and have a blast together on the dance floor.

Best of luck to all competitors! Hope the Practising is going well, and that you have a brill competition day as well

I know!! It doesn't seem so long ago I was saying "ooeer three months until Blackpool and Four until Ceroc London!" I just can't believe where the time has gone! I'm still pretty much burnt out from Blackpool too, but I'm well prepared for this one as our accommodation is sorted out plus we get plenty of practice time the day before. No excuses for feeling tired or getting to the venue late this time! We did well last year and hoping for the same result. 1st would be great! but if we came third again or even got through to the final, I'd be happy with that too.

You two have absolutely nothing to worry about! If you came 1st at Blackpool, you'll have no problem in this one at all! (Blackpool is an extremely tough one!) Hope the practising runs smoothly.

Re: Hammersmith Comp 2006 - What is the format of the rounds?

    Oooh Donna,

Your frank aspirations and assessments are both inspiring and scary at the same time!

ElaineB may clip me around the ear, but my personal opinion is that - in terms of competing - competition day is not the "be all and end all" of what competing couples accomplish.

Its the journey thats important - all that training together and the sharing of ups and downs with others. I've found my dancing has really improved from all this competing marlarky, and I have met more "friends" through it - in less than a year - than I have from many years of just dancing.

You and Steve have a fantastic thing going - a love of dancing - which you share together. Elaine and Simon have that too - as do many couples I imagine. Thats what important!... winning stuff is just icing on the cake.

Anything can happen on competition day - a broken down car, a slip, a stomach bug, cramp etc. There can only be one winner in each catagory.... It is the journey up to competition day thats important - in my opinion.

I'll stop blathering on now I reckon!

    Martin

    BTW:
    Training went great tonight!
    ElaineB's advice worked a treat
All our wow moves went like clockwork 1st time - Looks like the break did us good.

We are raring to go now! ggggrrrr!
Hammersmith will hopefully be the performance we had actually wanted at Blackpool!

It certainly does improve your dancing. You learn quicker. (like you have no choice there!)

Yeah true. Love dancing but it's great when you win a place or even make it through to the final because that shows that you're making progress after all.

Anything can happen on competition day - a broken down car,

    Yeeeessss

a slip, a stomach bug, cramp etc.
Just hope I don't get one of these next!

Glad the training went well. Go for it! knock em dead!
