I was quoting one of our company directors who mentioned that he regularly beat Bruce back in the day. This was before I was told by the MD that he'd represented the UK internationally & had got the the LA Olympics

You're obviously too young to be allowed on this thread
    Oh dear, oh dear.

The Def Leppard album in question was recorded while Rick Allen still had two arms, Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden is a top-rank fencer who was asked to represent Great Britain, he and Danny Bowes of Thunder have two of the finest rock voices ever, and you have no taste.

Oh, and the first place I heard most of those bands was on the Friday Rock Show, presented by..... Tommy Vance!

You're obviously too old to appreciate the finer points of '80s rock

    Re: Classic Rock Albums

I LOATHE the phrase 'classic rock'. To me it has the same effect on music as disinterring mammoth skeletons and putting them on display. Ugh. It's a phrase that Smashy and Nicey would have used without a tinge of irony.

I'll tell you my top 20 'albums' (actually, 22 - couldn't reduce it to 20) from the first great era of rock - from the first rock album (Beatles - Revolver) to the beginning of punk (1976).

    Led Zeppelin I
    Led Zeppelin II
    Deep purple in rock

    Emerson Lake and Palmer (first)
    The Doors - The doors
Pink Floyd - Dark side of the moon (there is no dark side of the moon really - matter of fact it's all dark)
Van der Graaf Generator - H to He (who am the only one)
    Yes - The Yes album
    Yes - Fragile
Genesis - Selling England by the pound
Derek and the Dominoes - Layla
Black Sabbath - Master of reality
Uriah heep - Demons and wizards
Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are you experienced?
    Free - Heartbreaker
    Groundhogs - Split
    Budgie (first)
    Camel - Mirage
MC5 - Back in the USA
    Queen II
    Supertramp - Crisis? What crisis?
    Wishbone Ash - Argus

um...and an honourable mention to Comsat angels for Waiting for a miracle which doesn't qualify on date grounds - released in 1978 (1979?)

Thats what I like about music we can all agree to disagree.

My no 1 would be Sensational Alex Harvey Band and Next.

I have listened many times but can't find an MJ track on it anywhere. Never mind.

Have any of the Guns 'n' Roses fans who must be hanging around here heard the new Mylo version of "Sweet Child of Mine"?

Might be hard to believe, but it's better than the original... (IMHO!)

    ASDA huh

I have just bought an Eddie Cochran double CD

It Had 2 CD's in it

I Played the clearly labeled CD1 - wow great

I played CD2 -once again clearly labelled CD2 - it was the same as CD1

I Put them in my lap top to see what was on the CDs
CD2 Clearly showed different songs to CD1 but still played the same songs as CD1 ( wouldn't copy though!! )

Guess I will have to go back to ASDA and change it - such a pain cos Eddie Cochran is Brilliant

Stuff like that often becomes highly collectable. Especially if its a european mistake. Then american collectors want the ****-up.

And Eddie is very collectable in America.

what used to amuse me about Maiden was all their videos were identical (til they had that number 1), excruciating for this tOTP fan,

    G

Astounded to see that ACDC Back in Black was the 80's 2nd highest seller...

Their older videos certainly weren't up to much, it's true. They were (and still are) an amazing live band, though. I'm going to see them in Cardiff in December.

Remember seeing ACDC on the "If you want Blood you've got it" tour, Nov 1978 at Trentham Gardens, Stoke. Great concert, head-banging for about 2 hours. Minor problem was the concert was a Sunday night ... and the follwing day was my first day at work, with the NCB. Staggered in for my first day unable to lift my head properly as I'd pulled all my neck muscles the previous night. Looks like even then I really knew how to make an excellent first impression.

    As I wrote elsewhere herein...

I was at school with Bruce Dickinson. We were in The Royal Hunt of the Sun together. He was rusticated for p!ssing in the headmaster's lunch.
