    Re: By way of introduction...

I only just noticed this thread, and figured I should probably introduce myself even though I've already been posting for a couple of weeks or so

I've been dancing for about five years but with a couple of years' gap in the middle of that - modern jive and lindy hop mostly, but in the past year I've been almost exclusively doing MJ. I live in Sheffield and usually dance at the BlitzJive venue, and also get a lift to Alive4Jive's classes in Chesterfield when I can.

When I'm not dancing I'm usually cycling or doing medieval reenactment, and I've been a perpetual student my entire life, although that must come to an end soon and I must find my way in the real world

    Hello!

    Also just noticed this thread

My name's Tom, my first try at ceroc was just over a year ago, after which I went at most once a week, with long gaps between lessons. I was actually never that keen until just after christmas, when a friend invited me to Camber in March with her. I said yes, and decided I needed to step up to dancing three times a week. At some point after that, a switch went in my brain, and I went from finding dancing a stressful thing I had to force myself to do, to the most glorious thing in the world Since then I've been going ~4 times a week, I'm starting to try WCS and AT as well, I've fallen in love with Blues, and I've signed up for Camber at the start of June and am debating going to Somerset in Sept/Oct. I live in Hampshire and work in London, so I have a lot of venues within reach.

Hi all! Thanks for all your advice, I've picked up a lot of tips leafing through the posts here!

As I've never introduced myself, even though I read the forum regularly and have posted a few times, though I would do so now!
I'm Glynis and I live near Manchester, and have been helping to run 2 independent MJ venues for almost 9 years. There is only one major Ceroc franchise in the north west (Maja's) the rest are all independents.

I've also been doing WCS on and off (lack of regular class/any freestyle in this area) for about 2 years and just got back from America where I went to a fantastic WCS night. I will be at Southport if anyone wants to say hello!

Welcome Vicky. I too found this forum when I'd been dancing just a few months and found it really helpful.

    Re: By way of introduction...

Hi folks, my name is Jonathan... I usually get called Jonny though. I'm brand new to ceroc and mostly new to the dancing community (although I did learn a little lindy hop based Jive a few years ago and loved it).

I really want to learn west coast swing as it looks fun and flowing like jive but sexier . Can anyone tell me of any classes in the Glasgow area please?

    Thanks,

    Jonny

Welcome to the forum and to Modern Jive/Ceroc Jonny - hitch a lift to Camber next weekend the best and quickest way to get the best of dancing. Lots of Westies will be there too.

    Thanks Minnie, Whitetiger.

I'll definitely be coming along to the Jumpin Jaks class on Tuesday, looking forward to it already! Do I have to phone to book a place or just turn up?

    Thanks again,
    Jonny

    Hi Jonny

I'm on duty as one of the taxi dancers on Tuesday, so make sure you say hi; I'll be wearing a ceroc t-shirt. If you try and get there before 7.30, it means there'll be time to fill out the membership paperwork (you have to sign your life away at ceroc ), and we can have a chat about what to expect before the class starts.

Look forward to meeting you then

    Re: By way of introduction...

Thanks Firefly... I'm guessing a taxi dancer is an experienced dancer who helps single beginners out? Erm, what should I call you?
I'll do my best to get along as early as possible, although I don't know where I'm working on Tuesday as yet... hopefully not too far away.

I must say this is a very friendly forum. Thanks for all the advice folks, I look forward to meeting you.

    Jonny

    Re: By way of introduction...

I just had my first Ceroc class this Wednesday with Lorna Baker.

Surprisingly I didn't step on any toes, and I think I managed to do each of the moves correctly at one point even if it wasn't in one long sucessful sequence. Looking forward to next week.

    Welcome!

Getting all the moves on the first week is good going - you're way ahead of me on my first week. It gets even easier 3-4 weeks in, so look forward to that

    Speak for yourself Cerderic.

It took me 6 months to feel confident to try my first intermediate class. Though I did find it quite easy.

    Re: By way of introduction...

I should have said, I think the thing I stuggled with the most was asking the ladies to dance during freestyle. I'm too shy. Luckily the ladies there asked me enough that I could get away with just waiting around.
