Put the goldfish in the hamster's cage. It should cover the smell of the hamster after a few days.
Should that not be, put the Hamster in the fish tank?Originally Posted by Rhythm King

May I be serious for just one tiny moment?
The ONLY kind way to kill a goldfish is to take it out of the tank and immediately hit it on the head. Putting it in the freezer or letting it dry out is cruel.
Alternatively, turn the tank upside-down and then the fish will be the right way up.
I agree with LMC. But one thing nobody appears to have thought of is Can't you take it to the vets?Originally Posted by LMC

If you want advice via PM thats fine
I guess because it a 'fish' people see it as fun, wonder how people would react if it was a cat you had had for 15yrs?
You think thats bad I woke up this morning and couldn't remember where I put something of major importance. Until I went to make coffee and then found said item in the fridge. It clearly shouldnt of been in the fridge.Originally Posted by LMC
I am serious and have called Maidenhead Acquatics etc and all they suggest is to end its days. I just dont have the heart to do it. I just wish wish the vets would take it and put it down in a kind wayOriginally Posted by stewart38

I watched him suffer for long enough and finally plucked up the nerve to take him out of the tank. He couldn't have fit down our loo - I wasn't going to take the chance of blocking that. Unfortunately I hadn't clicked that they can still breathe out of water and I really didn't know what to do. Luckily my dad came to the rescue and did the above.
My advice is to find a fisherperson who is used to doing this sort of thing if you can't bring yourself to do it yourself. Wittybird sounds brave enough, but does she have the bottle?
Good luck girls - mind you - I've got to say that your fish looks healthier than mine did! Have you tried any of the tonics that aquariasts (if that's what their called) sell?
Funny you should say that but i have a fisherman coming over for christmas dinner but im not having that sort of behavior on christmas day.Originally Posted by Piglet
The fish does have a big lump in his mouth which has got bigger over time, maybe it's a tumour who knows. I have tried alsorts of tonics etc in the water but none helped. He does still take food everyday so surely he can't be that ill, what worries me though is if he is not propped under the pump he floats straight to the top tail up and nose to the ground, does look rather odd i must say.
No I would leave your fish in peace for the next couple of days at least - he must have some energy left in him before he can manage to get himself under the filter. For that alone he deserves to be given a chance I would say, but then again the last thing I like to do is remove my fish from the tank - unless I'm putting them into a quarantine one.
If he's eating as well, then it doesn't sound like he's too ill that he wants to give up.
Lots of love and wishes for him Dee (and you too!)
Check Nitrites and Nitrates in the water (assume you have already)
If he is eating dont kill it !
If its an infection , you maybe able to treat it
