Is is on the same side as your bad knee? I've heard if you get a sore joint on one side of your body, then you'll suffer with another on exactly the same side. Think it's a load of b*llocks myself.

Where did I say I had a bad knee? My right leg (including knee) used to give me a bit of bother, but that's actually become a lot better as a result of dancing!

This is my left wrist (I'm left-handed) so it's still a mystery.

The good news is it's a lot better today, though I haven't yet decided whether I'm going dancing tonight or not. Might just go for one or two dances later on.

Ok, to me this is obvious, but I've gotten "You can do that? " expressions when I've mentioned it in the past.

Simply don't dance two-handed or left handed moves. You'll probably have to skip the clases, but freestyle's doable. Still fun though. Lots of sways

    Re: Injuries

I know I danced a lot last this weekend, Chiswick , Putney and Berko...

But I don't understand why my right achilles is really swollen. The skin around my ankle bone is almost blue and there is fluid hanging around there.

Admittedly I have had this injury before. 2 years ago the heel tabs at the back of my trainers caused an inflammation. 2 months of heat, then agonising massage, then ice, eventually cleared it, plus I cut the tabs off my trainers to stop it recurring.

Does anyone else get this kind of inflammation from dancing? I just wore my usual shoes, 2.5 inch heels all of the floors were smooth. Don't understand it.

    Any ideas?

I know, I know, I should go and see a GP it just seems a bit petty and I know they'll say rest.

Maybe it's the type of dancing you did? Lots of blues dancing, maybe?

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that, where this sort of injury is concerned, the only point of going to a GP is to get them to refer you (on the NHS) to a proper specialist who knows what they are talking about.

Failing that, if you can afford it, go straight to the specialist.

So no - don't go to a GP, go to a good physio / sports injury specialist.

    Re: Injuries

I currently have a suspected broken nose.

Dancing on Saturday night with a guy who spun me very hard into his elbow (complete accident, could have happened to anyone, and we were actually having a really lovely dance). The crack was so loud that we were both instantly convinced it was broken, within a second there was blood gushing from my nose. I ran to the toilets, my mum, the hall's first aider and another woman straight behind me, and when they all saw the blood (down my face, my chest and all up my arms) they were all convinced it was broken. One lady ran to grab a friend of hers, who was a nurse, and she was convinced it was broken. After an hour of sitting with enough ice to keep Ashtons' bar going on a Friday night sitting on my face, the bleeding had stopped, and it was clear that my nose is still nice and straight, although it was a little swollen still, so even if it is broken there is nothing to really worry about.

I spoke to my friend's husband (a paramedic) and he told me that, with a straight break, there is no way to tell the damage until the inflamation goes down, as they can't x-ray because its cartilege, not bone. No bruising has appeared, yet, but I was told it can take a few days. I have an interview this week, that'll look good with 2 black eyes!

    Hi ZW

I had done similar injury to tendons and ligaments on arch of foot through overwork and under support.

My GP is good and said inflamation near bone is often ligament and tendon attachment to bone, you can see where from medical diagrams on web. Most of these require some rest and less repeated strain of area. Mine was too much dance trainers and i now wear dance shoes more frequently.

Problem of strained ligaments and tendons is they fail to stretch as well when damaged and so the attachment to bone then takes the hammering, so i am told.

The important bit is see someone soon, as I danced through and ended up making far worse and 8 weeks off dancing plus slow resart

very best of luck, we all dont want to miss you dancing.
