I have reviewed DVD 3 and 4. The format is really good - the DVD shows each catergory through from the first round, to the final and the presentations. It also includes the scores for everyone competing. I understand from Steve that you need only buy the DVD/video that interests you - you do not have to buy all of them!
Well done Steve 'Hitman'.

It does seem weird - you'd think, the quicker the DVDs get produced, the more copies they'll sell, simply because the event is more fresh in people's minds.Originally Posted by Donna
I mean, "Do you want to get the Hot New Summer DVD, showing last year's competition at XXX" doesn't seem much of a selling point to me. I guess the low volume means the organisers have to take their place in the queue behind bigger jobs, but even so, you'd think there are small-volume specialisers who could be used.
In my work, I produce a few small-volume print jobs, but If I employed a printer that took 8 months to get something done, I'd not employ that printer anymore. And if they lost the source - well, they wouldn't because I always have the source, that way I know who to blame if it gets lost.
Would people prefer "raw" quickly-produced DVDs, or would they prefer to wait for more professional, but much later, releases?

Wow...you say in your profile it's boring....sounds like you don't work for a very busy company either...I'm not surprised. Same here....that's why we're both always on this forum I guess!!! Well, it's something to do innit????Originally Posted by DavidJames
So long as it plays properly from beginning to end and the quality is just about good enough, then "raw" quickly-produced DVDs will do me fine. Better than waiting nearly a whole year for it or even worse, DVD's getting cancelled through not being able to complete it on time innit??!!!!Originally Posted by DavidJames

Having produced a DVD myself I don't under-estimate the work involved for a quality, professional product . I don't know what the answer is to please everyone? I am sure there will be plenty of suggestions.
What DVD is that then?? Have you heard the ceroc one has been cancelled?? I'm absolutely livid about that!!!!Originally Posted by Dazzle
That sounds highly plausible.Originally Posted by Dazzle
But, come on, 8 months? It hardly seems worth doing really. There must be other ways of doing it.
Couple of possibilities I thought of, just off the top of my head:
- Get people at weekenders to pay (at least some of the cash) for the DVDs upfront? That'd give the organisers some cash to give in advance to the producers, so should speed things up / provide an incentive to the producers.
- Offer download-only versions; this saves on packaging, production and distribution, which all take time and money.
The point is, the delays in producing these are unprofessional. Clearly these things can be done pretty quickly. 2 weeks is great - 8 months is amateur. And "not doing them at all" is way worse than amateur...
It was an instructor DVD for you know who. Hadn't heard about the Ceroc one. Seems very disappointing though for those that went and more so for competitors. Were you allowed to use personal camcorders on the day? If not then it is really out of order to cancel it now. What was the reasoning again for cancelling?Originally Posted by Donna
I totally agree. If they don't make any money on sales then they only have themselves to blame, but it is small consolation for those waiting and wanting them, like me!Originally Posted by DavidJames
Apparently, the production company had let them down - somehow had lost the masters, which seems amazing...Originally Posted by Dazzle
To be fair to Ceroc, this is beyond their control - and they did send a "Shall We Dance" DVD out as compensation. But it sounds like these DVDs do often take a long time to get into production generally, which is poor.
Replaced with a 'shall we dance' video?? Seen it. Anything else???Originally Posted by DavidJames

Just to point out, that this may in fact not be true at all, and the source of the cancellation might just be a financial dispute between Ceroc and the production company.Originally Posted by DavidJames

Any way of finding out the truth about this DVD? I'd really be interested to know what has happened to it.Originally Posted by Rachel
