Leaving Penrith at 5:30, driving 270 miles to get home for a class at 9pm
After getting the train back to Kent late one night after a Ceroc class and running 20 minutes through a back track in the dark in the middle of the forest to get back home ... i was interested to know.. to what lengths would you go to, or have you already been to, to dance?
I travel at least 2 hours, twice a week to get to and from dance venues and often find myself racing out of classes early so that I can catch the last train. Probably tempting fate while Im at it by walking down dark country paths at 1 in the morning ..

Well, my local venue is, ooh, 2-3 minutes drive. Does that count? ( :smug git icon: )Originally Posted by KatieR
I've found, the older I get, the less I'm willing to sacrifice comfort-wise. I'd be very unlikely to spend more than, say, 30 minutes travelling to a venue unless I was sure it'd be something special. But then, from North London I can get to at least a dozen venues (by car) in that time.
Good God Seriously, Katie, you're nuts.Originally Posted by KatieR

Even though it takes me an hour to get home from there, I still go to Fulham.
And when I'm Cerocing straight from work, I tend to go into the public toilets and put my makeup on there- including heating up my eyelash curlers under the hand dryer.
I'd also say that getting nibbled to buggery by whatever lurks in the blankets of the Bisley Pavilion cabins classes as pretty great lengths!
I'm glad I only saw the insides of one for 2 minutes now.Originally Posted by Purple Sparkler
Plus, so I'm told, the walls are, ahem, very thin...
They are indeed. NOT that the thickness of the walls actually had any bearing on MY activities over the weekend. Maybe next year...Originally Posted by DavidJames
For over a year there have been no local classes to go to, so I have either organised something myself - which gives some limited dancing opportunities (as I am organising/try to dance with the completely new folk to encourage them) or I fly over to England. In the past 13 months I have been over for 4 weekenders, Britroc and been on a dance holiday in Spain.
Well, of course, I'd expect nothing less of SuperHeroine PS.Originally Posted by Purple Sparkler
But imagine, hypothetically, you heard, ahem, noises - how could you look your neighbours in the eye the day after?
I'm shocked, shocked to find that such activities are going on here.Originally Posted by Purple Sparkler

damn, just gave it away myself, must work on that...
I think I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.Originally Posted by DavidJames
I don't think they go on in the cabins. Just the hotel rooms.Originally Posted by DavidJames
And you know this because?Originally Posted by Purple Sparkler
I would assume it goes on in the hotel rooms because the walls are thicker. I don't KNOW for certain.Originally Posted by DavidJames
Again, maybe next year...
Well, I do know for certain it does go on in the cabins...Originally Posted by Purple Sparkler

And how exactly can you be so sure?
I must just add that I for one would be far too knackered for any of that if my level of end-of-day tiredness at the most recent MJC is anything to go by...Not to mention the fact that my muscles were aching enough without any cabin-based rude naughtiness...

Nudge, nudge, wink, wink -- so, this explains your needing a lift to the Fleet charity dance at "The Lismoyne Hotel"Originally Posted by Purple Sparkler
Hmmm, maybe I'll wander along myself then

Doesn't sound terribly sensible, to me.Originally Posted by KatieR
Aside from obvious issues -- I know from jogging at night it's pretty easy to turn an ankle on unlit country roads (even if you've got a torch) -- and that can seriously cramp your dancing.
Aren't there any taxis / closer venues?

WoW You must be really keen, I don't know if i'd like to be walking alone along dark country paths at 1am. You make sure you take careOriginally Posted by KatieR
I don't need to travel that far to get to Ceroc. Just the train and a ten mins walk to JumpinJaks, and a train, subway, and short walk to the GUU. However I do need a lift to Rutherglen as it is a 25/30 mins drive in the car-so it would take about an hour to get there by public transport. That is one of the reasons why I can't always make it there.

Hey, don't take it the wrong way, if only because I don't want to be known as Mr Two-Minute (taken me long enough to shake off the TT label...)Originally Posted by Purple Sparkler
But it's what I've been told, by a usually-reliable source.
Yeah, 'coz that always happens :evil smirk:Originally Posted by Purple Sparkler

But what else can I do? I have to be here ready for work at 6 in the morning.. so if I want to dance, thats what I have to do. I dont have a car..
yeah.. this was meant to be a clean thread.. so stop hijacking it and if you want to talk dirty go upstairs!!Originally Posted by Purple Sparkler
