    Geeks of the world unite!

    List 5 reasons why you are a geek. And make them good reasons.
    Justify them. Explain them. Be loud and proud about how big of a geek
    you are!

    1) I am a complete dance geek. Anyone who gets me on the subject of dancing will be sat there for quite some time unless they can get a word in edgeways. When I listen to music, I consider carefully whether one could Ceroc to it and if so, what FORM of Ceroc would be most appropriate. If I am trying on clothes in a changing room and they aren't for work, I consider carefully whether I could dance in them- would I get to hot? Does a skirt swirl out nicely if I spin (I spin several times to check)? Will the sparkly bits show up on the dancefloor? I can ramble on at you about the Royal Ballet's lack of storytelling ability, and the wonders of Matthew Bourne. I know who Pina Bausch is. I am hoping (when we find some men) to choreograph a team cabaret routine with KatieR, and as a result have spent ALL of today listening to the CD of 'Ultimate Dirty Dancing'. If a film is about dancing, I will um and ah over buying it and usually buy it. I spend huge amounts of time discussing dance on the Ceroc Scotland forum.

    2) I own films. Lots and lots of films. A lot of them aren't ones I should be proud of owning. I am a film geek with a taste far too eclectic to ever be acceptable to the average film critic. I have a particular weakness for comedies. I spent a year on a course that was partly about films. I can explain to you why Sergio Leone made better Westerns than John Ford from the point of view of employment of the medium in which he was working. And I can give examples.

    3) I have made friends' eyes glaze over with boredom when discussing my Masters dissertation on Indian myth, culture and history in Western theatre. I could still bore the pants off you talking about Shakespeare or Peter Brook and why he is bad and wrong from an intercultural point of view, and I graduated 4 years ago.

    4) My CD collection stretches 2 feet up and all along one wall of my room. And most of it is cheese. Amongst gems to be found are 'Kings of Calypso', 'The Best of the Electric Light Orchestra'. I know all the words to 'Shaft'.

    5) I can use HTML code- including font sizing and picture insertion. And I'm a girl.

    font sizing, assuming you mean the <font> tag, was deprecated ages ago you should be using style sheets

    theres nothing geeky about me. i only have 12 computers at home and can quote the majority of "life of brian" verbatim

    Re: Geeks of the world unite!

    Purley on a knowledge basis;
    1) I can understand programming code including HTML, PHP, SQL, and most OOPL's {I draw the line at hex and machine-code though: only ubergeeks understand that}

    2) I know lots of useless natural-history stuff like the name o trees, what various fungus are and where they grow, the living habbits of most small animals destined to go 'flup' under the wheels of a car, etceteras.

    3) theorys and hypothisis on weird stuff like ghosts, astral projection, auras, spontaneous combustion, chi, hypnosis, etcetera fascinate me and I can spout even more waffle on this than on Dance!

    4) I love books and still have most books from my child-hood, including lots of snoopy and garfield.

    5) erm.. dance? the Ceroc Scotland Forum? need I say more? {How many people jsut said "No!"?}

    I don't get to be a geek any more: my wife keeps taking all my toys away or spending all my money so I can't buy them {Although I have a cool brother that buy me things like air-hockey tables and remote hovercraft and wrist-mounted rocketlaunchers }
    I could list you five reasons that I was a geek, but they are all up in the loft now.
    ...But for those of you who can: http://www.thinkgeek.com or http://www.iwantoneofthose.com

    After looking at this keyboard on thinkgeek.com i was reminded about the time i spray painted my computer keyboard completely silver so it had no visible marks on any of the keys. Used it that way for months until the paint started to come off. Thats probably geeky

    Re: Geeks of the world unite!

    1) Anyone can go on to the band website and read the anorak section. (here) I break down the music I write into minutiae...

    2) I have almost a full collection of kids' lightsabres. Only the ones that extend AND light up AND make the noises.

    3) My attention to detail, particularly when I'm working on something, is astronomically strong, yet dull and boring.

    4) I upgraded my lightsabre collection to the adult ones: admittedly, I only have 4 so far!!

    5) Oh, and I currently have 6 different guitars at home: all beacuase they have different sounds, and do different things for recording!!!

    Gawd, I need to get out more... any offers?!?

    I would personally go with a vvvvvvvvvfffffffffffffnnnnnnn noise.

    Did you know they had to stop Ewan McGregor making his own lightsabre sound effects during filming the new Star Wars films, and explain that actually they put the sound effects in themselves? Or so I've heard...

    No, I'm sorry, there's definitely a "z" in there somewhere.
