    Boyz and their toyz

I felt an urge to have a kitchen clock that synchronizes to the Rugby Time signal .

    So I bought one.

Atomic clock accuracy (well -ish) in a kitchen in Finchley :pride:

Endless fun listening to the Radio 4 time pips and watching the second-hand hitting the hour.

So what piece of technology do you have, actually use and still covet even if it is a teensy-weensy bit unnecessary?

    Re: Boyz and their toyz

Interesting factoid: the caesium beam atomic clock that supposedly generates/calibrates the time signal from Rugby hadn't run since the 1960's (or so I was told by the man responsible for it when I was working at the National Physical Laboratory in 1989). Instead they use a rack full of commercial Hewlett Packard time signal generators and just take the average...

My Dad has one of these. Cos the signal wasn't very good though it failed to change the time went the clocks went back.
We had to dangle it out of the window to get the signal!

U not noticed?? It's a bit like boats/cars, etc... All the midwives, books, etc tend to refer to unborns as "her".

    No idea why.

P.S. Due on Thur but thought last night was the night!!

Not yet, though... (patience was never my strong suit! )

    Re: Boyz and their toyz

I was given one of these allegedly super-accurate atomic clock-cum-weather station thingys for Christmas. I think it's shown the update signal twice, since I've had it. I've given up and now set it by the BBC. Current fave gadget is the iPod Shuffle I was given as a leaving present, when I moved offices recently. Just the thing for travelling, and no moving parts to worry about.

This very day I have purchased a pair of Sennheiser Noise Cancelling earphones for my mp3 player. They are the dogs.

When I move back to London they'll be great on the tube...

I have one of the synchronising clocks too. And I compared it to the website Phil mentioned. Trouble is they're different.

I bought the poor-mans version from Philips - all the nasty bass on the tube is just filtered out - so I don't have to play Kylie at 900dB. Only problem, they are like a pair of aluminium coconuts on my head - I look a complete space cadet whilst wearing them.

Well, that's in the wallet of the beholder, I guess. I got them from John Lewis Southampton and they were £89.50. They fold up, and come with a little pouch to keep them in. If you do decide to buy a pair, you'll need AAA batteries to run them. O, and I think there are two varieties, the 'in-ear' variety and the other variety, can't think of what to call them, have a cushion that sits on your ear.
