    Disaster!

Don't laugh I've put my mobile though a whole 40deg wash cycle and it's very DEAD

I've managed to get the same number again but lost all the numbers on it, so if you have my number on your phone, please can you drop me a text with your name

Alternatively drop her a text with an anonymous enigmatic message - much more fun!

I did that. And got a message back to say that my number was still stored on her earlier phone, and she knew who it was

I think you'll find the manufacturers recommend a wipe with a damp cloth. And, for future reference, the same goes for laptops, toasters, and so forth...

I did the same thing ( phones are just too small these days).

    The SIM card was undamaged.

The thing was the phone just started working again almost exactly a week later ( just a few hours after I'd bought a new phone )

Seems fair enough, even if the phone was OK, it would take a while for the LCD to dry out. But don't leave the battery connected while it's drying out. And more important, don't put the phone in the microwave or the oven to dry it out!

The SIM card reader won't be a lot of help if you only store numbers in your phone's memory...

You've just reminded me of one time when I dropped my mobile in the sink. It still worked but had some water in it, so I popped it into the oven for a few minutes to dry out. Which would have been fine, but I forgot about it, and 30 minutes later it had melted into a puddle.

    oops.
