A thread about nothing at all.

As many people are aware, the TV show Seinfeld was actually "about nothing at all". So I thought the Forum should have a thread dedicated to being "about nothing at all" too. Which is to say, in this thread everything that's actually "off topic" is hereby declared "on topic" and anything even vaguely topical is, well, "off topic".

Just to kick off then, does anyone have a decent recipe for meringues?

Whisk one egg-white until it makes stiff peaks (oo-er! ).
Add one table spoon (25g) caster sugar and whisk until stiff again.
Add another table spoon (25g) caster sugar and fold in with a metal spoon (don't use a wooden one or you'll knock all the air out).
Bake at 200degreesC for 5mins if you want it like marshmallow in the middle and crispy on the outside, or at 160degreesC for 20mins if you want it more like the ready-made ones you buy in the shops.
The recipe can be multiplied up (for larger meringues) easily.
    Hope that helps.

What if you have a fan-assisted oven?

It's for a fan-assisted oven. If you haven't got one watch out or it might burn!

    More about nothing....

The other day my friend announced that she thought her husband would be very cross if she handed her MOBILE number out to anyone from dancing and he preferred people to ring the house phone.
My other friend said that she thought her partner would have the opposite view and would regard the HOUSE phone as MORE personal than the mobile!

I've never thought about it before! Any opinions?

If I give my number out, its usually my mobile, just because most of the dance folk I know, seem to be obsessed with texting!

Re Meringues.. I hate them! They're so sweet, they make my teeth go on edge!
But I thought you had to kind of dry them out in an oven set at around 100c for hours? Oh well. cakes aren't my speciality!

Well, I suppose not that many people use phone boxes these days, but I'm not sure I'd call them "select"

There's far far too much on-topic posting in this thead, I'm afraid.

On the subject of phones: I asked for my home phone to be disconnected after realising that the sum total of all the calls I had made in five consecutive quarters came to less than 50p.

Actually I think that's the only place you can board it. Of course to get to Gatwick you'd need to start from Victoria.

ah Graham, you're an Angel to point that out, it's a very important distinction, indeed my friend Brent was quite Cross and missed his plane after a mix up over the Gatwick connection.

Yes, I just hope we weren't too late for anyone who was at Hammersmith on Saturday. Still, at least we're in plenty of time for anyone going to Wimbledon next month. Has Tiger Tim got a chance this year?
