What did you want to be when you were small?

Stuck in a traffic jam on the way to Brent Cross (if you don't know, don't ask, it's a loathsome place), I was idly thinking what people wanted to become when they grew up when they were really small (if you follow me )

The question was prompted by watching Fireman Sam for the 98th time with my nephews.

I wanted to be a TV repair man

I have thought of as many as I could but I will probably miss out your favourites and the list will need to be hacked - but here goes ..

I came full circle, i wanted to be an accountant, then wanted to be a teachers, then i wanted to be a nursery asst then i wanted to be a travel agent and now, i am an account manager!

I wanted to be an actress/singer/dancer performing on the stage in the west end...... (still want to do that actually !)

Parents persuaded me that as I had a brain I should do something more conventional

I wasn't fussy

Needless to say...I'm neither

As a child I was always curled up in a comfy chair with my nose in a book... so I always dreamed of being a writer.

I have several childhood memories of playing 'teacher' and helping younger children learn to read etc. I'm not a teacher but I do lecture part time!

Thinking more on this I also remember 'writing a musical' (based on two sisters trying to run a stable but there was a big landowner trying to buy them out - ok I was about 10!), 'choreographing' a dance routine (about flower fairies, it was rather tragic as I think one of the flowers was poisoned and we gracefully fainted at the end), playing vet (a career I did later consider at age about 14), and of course being a 'secret agent', amongst many other things!

Yup, I never knew what I wanted to be... and still don't

(But maybe that's OK as I'm still small?! )

When I was small (no gags about still being this) I always envisaged I would be tall, sophisticated, carry a briefcase and drive a sports car.

Looking back I realise now I was completely psychotic as a child and am saddened that my parents didn't get me any help!

as a wee little child i wanted to be a teacher - have memories of setting up schools with my toys and any small neighbourhood children i could get my hands on.

Actually got as far as doing my first year at Uni before diverting to the wonderful world of stage mangement.

Strangely I regularly end up having to do teaching/instructing in the various jobs i have had.... *shrug* go figure

I went for scientist, but did go through a phase of fancying being a firefighter! Wanted to be lots of different things - an author, a poet, married to Gene Kelly (but I'd have had to go backward in time a little or he'd have had to have been born a bit later!!)

Being famous for something appealed and I would still love to write a book - Ducasi - you fancy getting together on that one?

I always wanted to be a teacher (just like my Mum) and the idea still appeals to me sometimes, but there's far to much paperwork and red tape these days and that's very offputting.

My other (sensible) ambition was to be a forensic scientist (not a forensic pathologist - eeeugh!) but I'm just not brainy enough for that.

If people asked me the same question now I think I'd like to be a dress designer (but I fear that will be one of those things that stays firmly in my dreams :sigh: ).

I wanted to be a speech pathologist, then did work experience at a radio station which changed my mind to wanting to be a journalist. Got a cadetship and did that for six years, having a great time. Stopped when nothing challenged me any more (well, apart from the editor's attitude). Lots of other jobs for many years ... now happily settled as a people photographer.

I remember when a trip to Brent Cross was (for me) the height of shopping sophistication Admittedly, that was before Harrow got the St Ann's centre. Those were more innocent times.

I spent 30 minutes in Brent Cross last weekend looking for the Next store (in my neverending quest for a decent black T-shirt )- only to find out yesterday that they'd moved it across to the other side of the A406!
I don't know, don't tell us where you've moved to, people, we're only trying to spend money in your store...

But back in those days being female and training to be a pilot wasn't allowed
Of course girls are allowed now.
