    Music Suggestions Please

We are just about to buy some more music for the Razz Big band and wanted to get some tunes that would work particularly well for cereoc. I have been to several Ceroc events and have a few ideas but would like to know of any sure-fire hits to keep people on the floor. Any suggestions you have would be gratefully received. Tell us your favourites.

    Re: Music Suggestions Please

Well I think the most important thing for bands to remember for modern jivers (as opposed to lindy hoppers) is the importance of the tempo rather than the choice of song perhaps....we prefer a bit slower than (sweeping generalisation) ~traditional~ big dance band speed.

As a big band you probably already have this...but if not you could do a lot worse than the Bobby Darin song book! Artificial Flowers with lots of breaks and changes of tempo....dreamy.

As a 50s nut I'm biased to that era but have you ever come across Craig McMurdo and that Swing Thing, they have taken a number of what might be classed as rock and roll and swung them a bit..

Flip Flop and Fly, Shake Rattle and Roll, Honey Hush, actually anything from Joe Turner in the late 40s early 50s, (early 40s he was a bit bluesy)

Don't know if he publishes sheet music for the original stuff but Jools Holland (even the instumentals ) gets played up here.

Don't discard the old standards, Fever is a perenial favourite.

But very best idea, if you've got a few HOURS to devote, would be to check out the "playlists" threads in the DJ Booth section to get a full view of the range of music we enjoy!

Thanks for the suggestions. I have found the Jools Holland version of Tuxdedo Junction and I am looking for more Jools Holland stuff. I have also found Flip, Flop, Fly and Shake Rattle and Roll so we will buy those. We have most of the tunes on the 'Swinging with the Big band' CD but I will try to find ome of the others. I have had a good look through the DJ Booth as well, loads of material there. Just have to buy them and learn them now. Cheers.
