Heather's 'Pet Hate' thread inspired me... Here's an opportunity to sound off about all those non-dancing annoyancies.

I'll start the ball rolling with a random list:

1) computer / car / football anoraks
2) those three wheeler pushchairs (in the wrong hands...)
3) Nu-metal (As a child of the sixties I was an avid Heavy Metal fan but left all that behind in the 70's - but it's back...why?!)
4) Twee TV programmes conjuring up a bygone age
5) T shirts with comments on them
6) Designer labels
7) humourless people
8) mobile phones
9) new build housing eating into the greenbelt
10) not having 24 hour access to chocolate

Current pet hate...

the bug in computers that picks up on your mood and then decides which file to corrupt, just to make your day more interesting.:reallymad

Having lost a datbase of 700 records on Tuesday I spent two days typing them back in, only for the file to go "belly up" this morning. Still typing...

Sorry, had to get it off my chest...

Jayne

PS don't mention the word "back up" within my earshot...

Here is my list of things that really annoy me, in no particular order

Corporate greed and fraud
Government hypocrisy and inaction
dog dirt in public places :reallymad
Speed cameras (especially on the way to Aberdeen)
Small portions in restaurants
Bad coffee
spam email
overly crowded / smoky pubs
Windows and most things Microsoft
Supermarket food and generally poor standards in food production
Well that will do for starters, but I am sure that I could find more... Maybe we should start new threads for some of the things people have and will post in this thead... That would certainly get heated discussions going.

Water Disgrace

What is it about some people in Aberdeen
Scots (like me) get a bad name for being tight with our monies.
This most of us will easily defend,
but then the best dance venue in the NE of Scotland charges for
glasses of TAP water over the bar.:reallymad

Hi John,

I believe that in England this is illegal, although I don't know if the same law applies in Scotland. It goes back to one of these bizarre ancient laws that says that if someone asks you for water, you must provide it without charge. This means that is someone turns up on your English doorstep and asks for a glass of water you must give it to them - you're allowed to leave them standing on the doortstep, then give them a disposable a cup but you must give them water.

Has anyone else heard of this and does anyone know if it applies in Scotland???

I always understood that it was illegal in whole of UK, certainly in Scotland. Someone ought to ask a lawyer

Water

I thought it was illegal in Scotland for a licenced premises to charge for tap water. I think this was introduced a few years ago when people at raves were getting dehydrated after taking ecstacy.
In the rest of the UK I don't think it is illegal, just against Government guidelines. I can't remember being asked to pay for tap water for years.
The people to ask would be the local police/magistrates who check and approve the licence.
