    TV Moments

Driving home tonight I heard La Bamba on the radio and I got a sudden recollection of a ceroc performance to that very song at the Albert Dock with Richard and Judy on This Morning. Must have been about 1991 or so. I seem to remember Mr and Mrs Cronin, but not sure who else was in the group. I've got it on video somewhere.

Does anyone else remember this and what other TV moments have there been for modern jive.

I still have a copy somewhere of the Channel4 ? documentary that featured Mr. Cronin , Mr. Michael Ellard, David Thingy who I saw tonight at Ealing and some "action sequences" from , I think the late, lamented Central Club. Haven't watched it in years - I'll dig it out.

There was of course "Travels with my Tutu" where Deborah Bull tries different dance styles. Did a ceroc class but then ended up doing Lindy with Simon Selmon I think.

As well as doing the "travel with my tutu" series (only recorded the jive, tango and break dancing ones - sort of forgot about the belly dancing one) Deb Bull put out three one hour programmes called "The Dancers Body". Unfortunately the BBC have no plans to put any of them out again or release them on VHS/DVD - unless enough people write to them to ask them to do it.

If my (poor) memory serves ... There was also a section on Ceroc in a series on "Tribes", which included a lady saying that it was better than sex, because it lasts longer. It also featured "Henry(?) Miles", who I had seen about, saying that he had to learn to dance doubles when younger because the ladies travelled in pairs, and there were never enough men to go round.

    It was indeed that Henry.

I, too, have recorded lots of such programs. Alas, the Debbie Bull one was interupted by a transmitter breakdown. I did get most of it. I loved the old jitterbug film clip, and the dry commentator saying not to expect to see dancing like that gracing a ballroom near you in the near future, and Debbies comment, that, personally, she was looking forward to disgracing a ballroom.

    Re: TV Moments

I recorded Deborah Bull's Travels with my tutu episodes on Argentine tango and Ceroc/Rock and roll/Lindy hop. The latter included sessions at an unnamed Ceroc venue and at the 100 Club in London dancing a choreographed sequence with Simon Selmon.

Not MJ, but around that time I taped Nigel and Nina, Simon and Taina dancing Lindy Hop on Blue Peter.

There was something on Anglia TV called Feet First, I think, which included some Ceroc footage shot at the Norwich venue. Not sure whether I still have that..

I can translate. I went to university in Bristol so I no kreck waay t speke bristle (I know the correct way to speak Bristolian - if you still are having trouble).

If you want to write to the BBC to implore them to show the Deborah Bull series again then go to

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/dancersbody

and click on the "Contact us" bit in the left hand pane. You might as well put in a plug for the "Travels with my Tutu" series while you are about it. I have recorded just about all of them but wouldn't mind the chance to complete the set with the belly dancing one.

Watching her being too nervous to perform when she was trying breakdancing was interesting.

    Happy Dancing
