Had a nice dance the other night .....

It was "Fire", and the last track of the evening.

Asked a lady, who I new from previous experience wasn't a bouncer or hand beater, and enjoyed a nice smoothly relaxed dance to my limited repertoire of beginner moves. The lady's "thanks for a lovely dance" seemed quite genuine.

Can I rest on my laurels, or could I make more of this track? Is this a track which is slow enough, and "interesting" enough, to merit a "Blues" interpretation? If so, how do I go about it?

almost getting into the "overplayed list" but still worthy of smoothing to.

    Do you know which version?

The Babyface one is smooth, but I find the Pointer Sisters one is getting more requests, a little thumpier but still a smoothy.

I suggest you get a copy and R E A L L Y listen to the phasing so you can smooth better than your partner.

It's one of those you can just melt into, with the right partner.

    Just enjoy

Pretty sure it was the Babyface version, of which I have a copy.

I'll try to have a listen to the Pointer Sisters take on this. But am very suspicious of thumpy, thumpy.

The danger is that I'll be dancing for myself and perhaps ignoring the preferences of my partner of the moment. Is that selfish, or do I remain true to myself?

You try to share that melty moment with your partner and move her into your world. Bu to do this, you have to listen to it and be engrossed in the music in the first place; nothing too selfish in that, is there?

Just make sure you choose a partner who wants what you're going to give them.

Overplayed? No way ....we still love FIRE (Babyface and Pointer Sisters).

I have hardly ever heard it played in the ceroccentral area, despite requesting it many times over the years.

So IMHO it is totally 'underplayed' in the middle of England.

    ???

    Am I right or wrong?

Would I dare to mess with you ZW???

If you're not getting enough of it in your area. You should maybe move to London, or Scotland. I'm sure you'd get enough of it then.

(And you'd probably get to dance to Fire quite a lot too)

    (Just how predictable was that?!?)

I'd have said "wrong" for the version of Fire I'm thinking of (which I think is by Babyface/Des'ree - not heard the one with the Pointer Sisters on).

It's definitely on my personal "overplayed" (should that be "overheard"?) list. Pretty sure I've heard it at two Ceroc Central venues.
    Love dance, will travel

Age is a question of mind over matter, if you don't mind, it doesn't matter
    Leroy (Satchel) Paige (1906-1982)

Mickey Mouse's girlfriend, Minnie, made her film debut, along with Mickey, in "Steamboat Willie" on November 18, 1928.
That date is recognized as her official birthday.

There you go again!Putting it 'down'.Why cant you just comment on the dancing question instead off telling him he's dancing to old tracks. As ZW says the track isnt played enough where she dances. If it works dont knock it.
In fact if I was perfectly honest if I listened to all the advice on here about overplayed tracks I might as well pack it in.As has been stated here many times it is very difficult to keep coming up with new acceptable tracks.

OK. Interesting discussion about the music but, to get back on thread ...

How does Whitebeard, or anyone else, go about developing and expanding his "Blues" interpretation ?
