Took me years to get to a point where I was comfortable with close moves, but I think I am alright with them now. At the end of the day we are talking personal body space and mutual respect. Dancing close can only be fun if both partners are comfortable with it and each other.
Last night, I watched a woman's face, turn from a huge smile, to an instant look of dismay, as she finished one dance, only to be asked immediately by another guy she obviously didn't like, she clearly knew him, I could just tell from her body language that she was screaming inside.. Oh please let the floor open up and swallow me now!
Every inch of her body was stiff and she wouldn't look at him at all, or even anywhere in his direction.
He, on the other hand seemed totally oblivious and didn't take his eyes off her, to the point of learing at her and trying to hold her close.
It was painful just to watch
