drugs.
Just managed to liberate my copy of Led Zep IV from my kid brother and have once more immeresed myself in the nirvana that is "Stairway to Heaven".
The following points occur to me as I return to the grim realities of life;
- "Stairway to Heaven" is the greatest track EVER
- The rest of the tracks are simply there to waste space on the album
- What the h*ll is the track about????
drugs.

Climb up way up high,
Climb up way up high,
Climb up way up high.
Verse 1:
Well-a well-a well-a heavenly angel I want you for my girl
When I kissed your sweet, sweet lips
I knew that you were out of this world
Chorus:
I'll build a stairway to heaven,
I'll climb to the highest star
I'll build a stairway to heaven,
'Cause heaven is where you are
Verse 2:
Well-a well-a well-a over the rainbow
That's where I'm gonna climb
Way up high where the bluebirds fly
I'm gonna love you all the time
REPEAT CHORUS
Music break
CHORUS
Well-a well-a well-a I gotta be going,
Gonna leave the world behind
Every day in a heavenly way,
You're gonna drive me outta my mind
REPEAT CHORUS
I'll build a stairway to heaven
'Cause heaven is where you are
Climb up way up high
YOU BLASPHEME WOMAN!! What insidious words are those???Originally Posted by Chicklet
I talk about the one TRUE Stairway ... Read these words and weep at their beauty (uhhmm .. stiil no idea what they mean .... ALL 1970's tracks were on about drugs in some way ... but a more refined response would be apprecaited.)
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven.
There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
because you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it makes me wonder.
There's a feeling I get when I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who standing looking.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it really makes me wonder.
And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter.
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean for the May queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.
And it makes me wonder.
Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know,
The piper's calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
you bit!!!
Neil Sedaka rocks.
(come on Lou, you know you want to agree with me, from an , insider's, professional point of view)

I'm sitting here listening to it now!
It's 1977 again and I'm headbanging to a pub band playing Stairway at Kingsbury Circus in NW London.
Hey, I've got a full head of hair
.. and a six-pack
The Rolf Harris version is only 3 mins 47 secs the Led Zep version is a massive 9 mins 40 secs - I've got both versions

Years ago I took a flight from Glasgow and Rolf Harris was across the isle from me. He had a constant stream of kids coming up chatting to him and asking for his autograph. The guy next to me said 'for all our sakes I hope he does't start singing'Originally Posted by Lory

I rather like his version of "One Way Ticket (to the blues)", which I think was a double A side of "Oh, Carol". Brings back memories of playing with my parents record collection...Originally Posted by Chicklet
