I want to hear my favourite tracks sung by the artist
There is a time and a place for live bands.......its called a concert!
I avoid any night with a band.
We don't need live music for MJ,
I don't mind live bands - quite like them for a change occasionally
I love live bands that provide MJ music and varies the tempo
There are a lot of bands now who cater for the MJ scene and will slow the set down appropriately
Keep music live
Bring Back Glen Miller
Who is Glen Miller?
What do think about live bands and MJ

It’s interesting according to the poll, so far,
John Eastman’s sell out Weston Super Mare Winter Ball should be a flop

Those that are attending the Winter Ball may not be Forumites!!
Also, people go where people go. Maybe they're going in spite of there being a band.Originally Posted by under par

There is no option that says "I love live bands that provide MJ music and varies the tempo".
Check out Willy's band "south east".
Many, many years ago used to love this, when he saw "MJ'ers" the band used to play it up and vary tempo, so funny, sorts out the moves vs music people.
Frank is this allowed can we change the poll half way throughThere is no option that says "I love live bands that provide MJ music and varies the tempo".
It feels like a strange admission, as it was watching live bands that introduced me dancing, but I would avoid a band night if there was a DJed alternative.
I have been to plenty of brilliant nights put on by Jive Party, their live band nights in Leicester Square used to be THE MJ events to go to before the venue changed. Now there is far more competition, and I understand their DJ nights are far better attended than when they have a live band.
The last live band dance night I went to included plenty of the worst music I've experienced for some time. Plenty of people said to me "they're usually MUCH better than this." The only consolation was that I was accompanied by a fantastic dancer that I spent most of the night dancing with, but in light of the music, I did feel guilty for dragging her there.

For those folks who prefer a DJ... what makes a DJ superior to a live band?
Nothing beats a good life band. The risk is obviously that the band is sh** but you run that risk with a DJ, too.
The DJ is not superior to a live band. They both do a different job.Originally Posted by MartinHarper
But I will always avoid a live band for MJ. Here's why;
1. The music played by a DJ is created by a band in the best conditions and is as near to perfect as possible redition of that particular track by that particular band.
2. The music played by a DJ can be from dozens of bands - the music played by one band is exactly that.
3. In my experience, many bands haven't a clue about the music that's suitable for MJ and play music that's suitable for Rock & Roll dancing - even when they've promised not to.
4. We're asked to pay more - and IMHO you get a less appropriate for MJ, night.
So, there's always music that's played by a band at an MJ night - but IMHO there's many reasons why live music isn't as appropriate as recorded music. To turn the question around, what makes a live band better for a MJ night than recorded music?
N.B. Please note, I am not saying there's anything wrong with live-bands, I'm just asking if there's any reason why they're better for MJ than recorded music.
Sorry, I should have specified superior for MJ

I don't know. I quite like live bands as a change. Not all of them. But they do add to the atmosphere a bit (although, again, not all of them do that).
But as a bit of a one-off (I've probably seen 2 or 3 in the last 2 years (excluding Warmwell/Pwllheli)), they're a bit of a nice change.

Yes but its rare for a live band not to be supported by a DJ so you can have the best of both worldsOriginally Posted by Andy McGregor
And an often heard line is 'when is the DJ coming back on?'; 'have I got time for a fag/visit to the loo/etc?'. Hasn't anyone else noticed that the floor actually gets busier when the band finish and the DJ comes on - send a clear message to meOriginally Posted by philsmove
But, as the Tramp says, a band can be nice for a change. So long as it's a long night and the band is well chosen.
I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me why a band is better? :taps foot:
True.Originally Posted by Andy McGregor

As an occasion, I don't see the problem. I wouldn't want a band every time I go to a MJ night.
And..... As it happens, that's the way it is. An occasional event. And lets face it Andy, down there, if there's a band on at one event, there's probably another 2 or 3 events on that night that you can go to anyway. So, what's the problem??

Pay another visit to W Super Mare this time to John Eastman’s Christmas BallOriginally Posted by Andy McGregor
You will find the floor packed both for the band and the DJ
