I was at one on Saturday night.
Played for about 3 hours was exactly even when I left.
    cheap night out.

Hopefully make it up to next party. don't know yet as I have a wedding to arrange for September and am very busy.
If all your parties are as good as the last one it will be a regular entry in my diary.

Plus the old rule of dance with them when they are beggining and they will ask you when they are good is true and there are now plenty of good dancers who seek me out because I asked them in there first few weeks.

The reverse is also true there are plenty of ladies I ask, because they danced with me when I was beggining.
    Echo.

What I find scary is when I've been away for a while, then come back and find that those "beginners" that I first danced with are now better than me!
(OK, so it only takes a two week break for me to deteriorate and them to improve... )

Peter - that's not like you! If you had said that it WORRIED you then that would have been in character, but to be annoyed - well, really!

Yes, but only one-fourteenth of a championship performance (you can call me Mr Seven Per Cent).

Absolutely - I think that's especially true of people a lot younger than me (I know, I know, that's most of you out there) who seem to take to it like ducks to water and in a matter of months they go from being raw beginners to finalists in UK competitions!

It's that wedding you're planning sadly you will continue to be annoyed, stressed and worried etc until the big day but hey! it will all be worth it in the end
If you enjoyed the last Dundee party then you should definately come to the next one, the last one was a quiet one compared to the usual Dundee blast

Yep know what you mean! I was watching FC (Mel) and her partner dance on Saturday night at the Aberdeen party and I thought they were amazing together. I found out later her partner has only been dancing months!! (can this be true Mel??) I guess we have to accept that everyone develops at different rates and just keep trying. However Gadget I thought you were pretty damn good on Saturday so don't worry too much

    :sorry: Aww shucks, you're making me blush...{}

Did intend to post yesterday to thank all the ladiez for the dances, Lisa for the almost salsa moves and Curtain for the cool tunes.

    {Curtain: good set, a couple of excelent tracks I havn't heard before, but it didn't seem to flow as well as normal (if you know what I mean?)}

I'm pretty sure that's who John had in mind. I agree that they're amazing together - I guess that's what happens when you get two people with so much natural talent teaming up!

Hmmm. Not convinced that additional practice will make me dance like young James, but comforting theory anyway!

Yep, four months after he starts dancing, and James reaches the final of the Intermediate Competition at Blackpool! Mind you, after dancing up close and personal with Melanie for all that time it's no wonder he's so good - and no wonder he smiles so much!!!

    Deeply, doubly envious.

    No Flow

I know exactly what you mean!! It just didn’t flow the way I usually like it. I’m really impressed that you noticed, but I just wasn’t happy with the way certain parts of the night went. I was inundated with requests on Saturday and instead of playing to my usual tempo and rhythm I succumbed to the individual wants of the crowd. I know some people will say now that I’m paid to play for the paying customer, but what you’ve got to realise is that the customer isn’t always right.

The way I see it is that the deejay is the composer and the audience are the musicians, it should be him/her that sets the mood and brings the personality to the evening’s events (that’s what we are paid for). However, on Saturday instead of fitting the multitude of requests into my way of playing, I let the requests dictate the pace of the night.

Deejaying cardinal sin ladies and gentleman!!

At one point in the night I felt I’d just lost control and really wanted 1am to come as quickly as possible. However, I took stock and decided to play my way instead, fitting the requests in where I could and trying to preserve what dignity I had left. It wasn’t the most inspiring of nights all round, but I hope I salvaged a little respect by the end. I’m always a little hard on myself when it comes to the deejay lark, but I take my job quite seriously and I don’t like letting anybody down.

Next time, I’ll burn up the dance floor!!

Hey Paul I had a great night. it was a bit slow to start but there weren't that many people till later and that makes a good atmosphere difficult to achieve. I danced most of the night and couldn't do that if the musice was cr*p.

    Cheers

    Sandy

PS remember my request for week Tuesday!

Interesting arguement. It's a bit of a toughie. When I'm DJing, I don't particularly appreciate getting requests to interrupt where I want to go with the music either.

However, I think that the point has to be made, it may be what we are paid for.....but the requests are coming from the people who are (indirectly) paying us. No punters means no need for a DJ.

Not that I'm saying that people will stop coming, obviously. But they are the customers, and the first rule of customer service is that the customer is right (even when they are obviously wrong).

Paul, I was listening to a really old track today - "let there be love" by Nat King Cole and I thought it would be marvellous to dance a nice slowish ceroc dance to. What do you think??

I don't have this particualr track Sandy, but I'll have a look for it and tell you what I think. However, it would seem it has worked elsewhere so I don't see why we can't give it a bash.

Yeah, what the track that you want me to play again? Was it Vem Vet or Tango In Harlem? I know you were interested in both.

Well hope you have a good time (or had a good time, depending on when you read this) in Spain and remember to bring me back something nice. My humming wasn't the best, a little bit tone deaf!!

    See you Tuesday!!
