    JiveMasters 2004

Just seen the mailing from Ceroc Metro - here's something else to be excited about. The first round of this year's JiveMasters on Sun 30 May at Chigwell:

    Phil Webb & Yuko
    Roger Chin & Marianne Hospel
    Will Hargreaves & Kate Miles
    Andy McGregor & Sema Akyildiz
    Steve Howard & Julie Bass

Fantastic dancers, there - I can't wait to see them! I'll be wanting to support all of them, though - I honestly have no idea which of those are likely to win. God, who'd be a judge, huh?!

The only one I'm not familiar with is Sema. Andy - willing to forward any details?

I think that (on recent performances), the money has to be on Will and Kate doesn't it??

Although, all the other people involved are great dancers (for some, in their own inimitable style).

Looks-wise, Sema is a bit like Lydia - the one that was with Viktor. She's been out of dancing for a couple of years and has only come back to it in the last 2 months. She's a stylish dancer aged in her mid twenties. She's Turkish and a really nice person. We danced together a bit last Friday but will start our more serious practicing when I get back from the dance and sail holiday on the 20th. Most of the other couples are regular partners and have competed together already - worried, moi!

I chose Sema as my partner because I wanted to find a local dancer so we could meet up for regular practice. I also needed someone who is good and who I can lift! As I'm puny the lifting bit narrowed the field a lot

My objective with this competition is to do my absolute best dancing rather than cook up some kind of gimmick. The field is a strong one and I really don't want to look like a fool

Now, the important bit. Has anyone got any suggestions for a theme/outfit - and before it is suggested, The Tramp has already stamped his mark on the 'Beauty and the Beast'

Here is the challenge for The Tramp. Post a reply that isn't along the lines of "How dare you call Hayley a Beast"

Well ... I recognise half of the dancers there ... and pretty impressive they are. I'm still wondering which names will be in the frame for the Manchester and Birmingham heats We're a bit short of competition dancers round here ... and most of the best dancers I know, e.g. Pistol Pete, Newcastle Lynn ... don't have regular competition partners. Anyone know how the dancers (outside London) will be selected?

Wow - if she's a good dancer and looks like Lydia, that will really be something to watch. Do you not ever compete with your wife, Andy?

You're right, it's a very strong field - but I'm sure you'll do well. Will and Kate are absolutely amazing, and will be a very popular choice - but I wouldn't write off any of the others. I don't know them personally, but've so enjoyed watching Steve and Julie in the competitions this year. And Marianne and Roger are both incredible dancers - although I've never seen them together. Yuko looked fanastic in the lucky dip at the Champs - Marc says she's great to dance with, and can be comfortable doing so many different styles. And Philip was great at Blackpool - though actually, I've never seen Yuko and Philip dance together either.

Hmm, will be very interesing. looking forward to seeing it!

Excellent - I didn't know there would be regional heats, as well! We'll certainly try and make the Birmingham ones. Sorry, I have absolutely no idea who and how the dancers are selected, but I bet there are loads of great dancers up there. (Well, there's you and Helen, Della and Eliot (ok, Eliot's now London-based, I believe), Ann and Paul from Newcastle, for a start ....)

I take it there will be Scotland heats, too?

I think the pressure of Jive Masters would freak her out. Sue's really an intermediate dancer. Should I enter that category with her?

The date for the Scottish heat of the Jivemasters will indeed be in Glasgow on Saturday 10th July.
The couples are being approached as we speak, but the final line-up is not yet confirmed.
The idea of the Jivemasters is to invite previous competition winners (or placed), as well as professionals (teachers etc...). This year, 5 couples will be taking part, and with recent successes in Blackpool and London, we are not short of 'Jivemasters'

One certainty is that I won't be entering this year (competitions are evil ) and neither will Lorna as she will be 8 months pregnant by then, though that would probably not stop her winning it!

Adam will be up to host the evening, and will teach a selection of workshops on the Saturday / Sunday, so overall, another great week-end in Scotland.
    Franck.

    There's an A.P.P. for that!

    Regions?

Just a thought ... which region do the Bristol or Nottingham dancers fall into, Manchester, Brum or London? Some very good dancers in these two cities .... hope the regional organisers know who they are

It's here on the website. And I've pasted it below too (it didn't copy the formatting, the number is the BPM).

The fast stuff sounds quite scary for a man of 47. Can we have an Old Gits category?
