I would have thought it was better than being told you are a dysfunctional dancer. I have no idea what either might say about your dancing though.

Maybe they said a funky dancer?

No it was definitley Functional. Yes its better than dysfunctional.
I understood it to mean a dancer with whom you go through the motions of dancing rather than enjoying the dance and partner.

Yeah, that's the sort of interpretation I was hoping hadn't occurred to you Look at it another way. Maybe they didn't understand what they were saying. It happens. People use the wrong word. The main thing is not to take it to heart and let it affect your friend's pleasure in dancing.

Well I have to say then I did make him blush (although that was untentional ):
Once after a workshop some time ago, I got confused and didn't exactly follow what he was leading, so at the end of a spin his hand ended up on my breast... but then he blushed so much and was so embarrassed for the next few seconds (not minutes though, it's still Franck! ) that I really laughed a lot. It was obviously an accident!

    anybody else, then???

Someone said to me last night "I am sure you just make up your own moves".

I took this as a compliment but am not sure it was intended as one.

An AT dancer that I occasionaly see at MJ venues said to me a few weeks back "You dance with your soul."

Did he just mean I have no technique?

You're sure he didn't say "You dance with your sole"?

I get this every other time I dance! Generally with a at the same time. Either that or "Where do you get your moves from?" {again with a } to which the reply is normally "I make them up" or "I am just good at making mistakes"

Another nice compliment on Saturday - "You're the first man that I actually feel like I am dancing with, rather than going through moves". An indictment of her other partners' abilities (and she said that she has only been dancing for a few months) as much as a positive for me, sure, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Whilst I am in the thread I would like to say that the old saying 'Flattery gets you nowhere' couldn't be more inaccurate when it comes to dancing with me. I can, and do, remember those who praise my dancing and will readily seek them out for future dances. With this in mind, I too try and be complimentary to my partners at a dance's end (though never insincerely so) in the hope that they will remember this when we next encounter one another.

    Re: Dance Related Compliments...

Camber November 2004 a woman followed me upstairs from the blues room and sat next to me as I was changing into street shoes.

"I've been watching you dance downstairs and I just wanted to tell you I thought you looked amazing."

Was with girlfriend, sadly; sadly since that only lasted another fortnight.

Maybe she'll spot me again one day...

Haven't posted on this thread for, ooh, over a week now so....

Last week I was asked by one lady "How do you manage to turn every song into a slow dance?" which I took as complimentary in quite a tenuous way.
