Official C2D info re Blackpool 04

    Good afternoon Scotland.
Well as some may have heard, we at Chance 2 Dance, who organise your Blackpool Competition, have had two problems thrown at us already this year.
    We have tried to resolve both & this is the outcome;
Changes to the Chance 2 Dance Blackpool Competition:

    1)
We will now be hosting the ‘C2D UK Open Jive Championships 2004’, in the Tower Ballroom, Blackpool, (which hosts some of the finest dance competitions in the world, having a large fully sprung dance floor).
    Due to unforeseen circumstances, the New Itinerary will be as follows;
    · Friday 5th, Supper & Dance remains in the Winter Gardens, but in the prestigious Spanish Rooms (across from the Empress Ballroom).
    · Saturday 6th, competition starting at 12 noon, registration from 10.30 am. The venue will now be The Tower Ballroom, Blackpool Tower, with access from the Promenade, (only 500 yards away from the Winter Gardens & much easier to find! Faces the Beach)
    · Sunday 7th, Tea Dance remains the same, in the Tower Ballroom.

All times and dates remain the same.

We at Chance 2 Dance would again like to apologise for any inconvenience & will forward any complaints to ‘Travis’ the group! Whom we are told, we have to thank for this change in venue!!

On a different note, but equally as important:

    2)
    CHANGE OF CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS:

Please forward all correspondence to the following address, as we have had major problems with our PO Box (Seemed a good idea at the time!) This is a must, DO NOT use the old PO Box address!!

    Chance 2 Dance
    90, Woodhall Road,
    South Reddish,
    Stockport.
    SK5 7QH

Contact No's & E-mail address remain the same.
Thank you for your continued support, we look forward to seeing you there, between the 5th and the 7th of March 2004!

Look forward to seeing you there. Please also see Questions & Answer Thread, (Will follow within the hour).

    C2D official Q & A re Blackpool Comp 04

Your questions re C2D Blackpool Competition, answered.

    Q)
Are you limiting the numbers then? Will the freestyle be cramped?

The dance space on the floor is the same, give or take a foot or two, if you take into consideration the tables we have around the dance floor in the Winter Gardens. There will be no tables on the dance floor in the Tower.
The total space, including seating, is greater in the Tower, as confirmed by Leisure Parcs.
Last year we took nearly 500 people to the Tower on Sunday, and there must have been over 300 regulars there, via the Towers Open to the public policy. This year the general public will not be allowed in. Any one who was there last year will be able to vouch that it was not too crowded, with these numbers.
We are also introducing a Blues Room, upstairs, so again this should help for the Freestyle in the evening, eliminating some of the pressure from the main dance floor.
We will be monitoring the numbers though, as last year we felt was becoming a little cramped, so numbers may be limited this year, but not due to us changing venues.

    Q) Why didn't they tell you sooner?

No idea, business protocol, I presume!!
We were informed about 3 weeks ago, and had to make certain decisions, visit the Tower, to measure floor space, check their electrics & get our Application forms, & Tickets re printed, along with many other areas, requiring clarification. This is the soonest we could inform you the dancers, sorry!

    Q)
A few people have been asking what the £2.50 booking fee is for - must admit it's the first time I've seen this on a competition entry form.

We introduced the admin fee this year, as we have never really increased our prices over the previous 3 years, although our admin cost has continually increased, i,e room hire, postage, phone calls etc.
We did not feel it fair to increase a particular area, i.e just ticket prices, as this would have an impact on every single person, or if we increased the entrance cost to individual categories, it would only effect competitors.
We felt the fairest way would be an admin charge, this way people entering as couples, or groups would only have a one off £2.50 to pay, not an increase per person!

    Q)
How come Travis have managed to take over your booking - seems very bad form on behalf of the Winter Garden management.

We feel, as you do, it is absolutely abysmal & totally unprofessional of the Winter Gardens, but they tell us it is a contract they lost a couple of years ago & they needed it back. They stand to make £30,000 more on this than on ours!
We obviously have the dates booked in advance & have this confirmed for a total of 5 years revolving. Unfortunately The Winter Gardens will not issue a full unconditional contract with these dates, until nearer the time. Now we know why!
They do sincerely apologize & have promised this will not happen next year. We do believe them & they have promised us a contract for this, in the immediate future!

    Q)
Who will be paying for the extra cost?

The extra costs, such as; Room Hire, Admin, Printing etc, will be paid for by ourselves, Chance 2 Dance & the Tower Ballroom people. None of these extra costs will be passed on to any of the dancers/competitors.

    Q)
I have just posted my cheque to your PO Box, will you receive it?

From our experience & what we know at present, No.
If you have not yet had your cheques cashed, then we do not expect to receive your cheques, in the immediate future. We do however expect to receive these Applications & Cheques eventually.
We as a company have decided that the only way to guarantee your places, is to ask for you to re submit to our old address, 90, Woodhall Road, South Reddish, Stockport. SK5 7QH.
It may be worth informing your banks that your cheque has gone astray in the post, so they may cancel it.
We do not wish to leave any of your applications to chance, as the competition fast approaches. Please re submit.

    Finally;
On an optimistic note the Tower is the home to many International Ballroom Championships, with a better-sprung floor, it is internationally renowned & has better spectator viewing points, with an overall capacity greater than that of the Empress Ballrooms.
We did initially look to the Tower Ballroom when we started the competition, back in 2000, but as it cost twice as much we decided against it!
We are obviously sorry about the inconvenience & look forward to the Competition being returned to the Empress Ballroom for the 2005 competition.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could let others know of the above points.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us on achance2dance@hotmail.com, or on my Mob 07973 350 210, or our Voice Mail 0161 276 5678
