It sounds like a good idea in theory... there'll be none of those snooty other dances!
So, there's a "pure jive" weekender being organised next April. The selling point seems to be that it is, well, pure (Modern) Jive; all the classes and (most of) the music will be aimed only at MJ-ers.
Which, obviously, is in contrast to the multi-dance nature of most MJ weekenders.
It's an interesting idea - what do people think of it?

Yes, I asked that very question (as I'm an awkward beggar ), on the FB group page, I got the response from Matt Henson:
(Matt Henson? Is that the muppet creator?) (I know, I'm not in any position to take the mickey out of a name...)Hiya. Although all classes will be MJ, we thought an area for WCS & Blues would be nice for people to dance in for an alternative.
It's "pure". Pure as the driven whatever.
On a serious note, I would like to see what sort of programme of classes an actual MJ weekender would have; I think it's a good idea to try to see if the dance has enough variety to support that concept without needing other dance styles to sex it up.
I've attended 2-4 hour MJ workshops on 5-6 different topics and have many more that I'd still like to do (some are more advanced variants on ones I've done, some are ones I haven't done at all yet).
Unless you've been dancing a few years there's an awful lot to learn, even without the usual weekender splattering of sexy new funky fast traveling smooth hot variation move classes..
I think it's down to whether the teachers can teach that level of variety, and getting a good set of teachers is important for any weekender.
I agree with that, there is a lot to be learnt within MJ, though it can be useful to have teachers of other dances as much can be gleaned from other styles... The connection and styling of Tango, the discipline, shape and timing of WCS, the precision, footwork and style of Ballroom, etc.
In Scotland we have run many such 'pure' week-enders (we call them Focus), not on the scale of the Ceroc Escape week-enders, but perfect for learning, dancing and socialising.
We are planning a return of the focus week-ender in October, limited numbers, 2 nights Dinner, Bed & Breakfast, plenty of Focus workshops and Freestyle... So watch this space and keep the 7th/8th October in your diary!
Franck.
There's an A.P.P. for that!
