    Re: Facebook Dancers Forum

    Yes - Dancer's Forum.

    The description is

This group allows you to say what you want to say! About dancing, the venues, prices, music, moves, etc.... Hopefully good things!
But also the bad things if you feel the need to express whats bugging you! Also give your opinion/suggestions for venues which you may think help.

Add your dance friends it doesn't matter what style of dancing you do!

Please do not advertise in this group as this will lead you to being banned. Should you wish to be advertised, please message the group admins and we will add you to the other group where you may advertise freely.

NEW RULES - SO WE TRY NOT TO UPSET TOO MANY PEOPLE!!!!
    ************************************************** ********
    1. We're all here to discuss and debate the Dons of dance- and we encourage different opinions to be put out there. It's easy to get into a heated debate - but try and keep topics on the subject at hand and avoid getting too personal. Any sort of personal abuse or offensive posts are not welcome, we're all on the same side after all we all love dancing!

    2. Before you start a new thread or post , have a quick look at the forum to see if there's been something already mentioned on the subject.

    3. Remember the Admins are here to help the forum run smoothly. While we'll strive to help and assist members whenever we can, we're not here to be abused. We like to think we're approachable, so if you have any questions about the forum then please do contact one of us.

    4. As much as we like to let people have their say, we don't allow false scandals or unproven allegations about individuals to be posted on the public forum. The forum has to abide by the laws of defamation, and anything which may contravene these laws will be removed.

    5. While we all like a wind up now and again, we don't encourage "bullying" on the dance forums - and you will be banned

    6. If you notice anything objectionable, then please "report" to one of the admins rather than getting drawn into an argument on the forum & it will be removed by an admin, and dealt with as soon as possible.

    7. No spam or adverts by dance companies please ,
disscusions about good places to dance are ok though so long as its not a big advert for them!

    9. Do not reveal personal information of other forum.

    11. We want you to enjoy the forums. We don't want to have to issue warnings, suspensions and bannings unless necessary.

    Enjoy the dancers forums!
I especially like the "This group allows you to say what you want to say!" bit.

Compared to other Evil Forums (which are, you know, forums) which presumably do not allow you to say what you want to say.

But it isn't a 'forum' - it's a group . . . and I got added to it without my permission - sort of thing that aggrevates me about Facebook!

    Huh, I didn't.

    I'm a nobody.

Yeah, with new-style groups you can "add a friend". Although to be fair, if you leave the group you can't be re-added to it.

It would still be preferable if groups were 'opt-in' and, similarly to events, friends could invite you but not automatically add you.

How would you know if it had been?

Maybe some dodgy newspaper reporter is regularly checking your voicemail but has not yet found anything worth publishing...

Ooo, I see what you did there.

And there's now a thread on the FB group, discussing this thread.

    It's all going very meta.

Almost certainly true. "Can you pick up some chips on the way home?" is about as exciting as it gets, message-wise for me.

Well I hope you are happier now you've been added
btw - you need to go into the edit group setting thing to turn off all the automatic emails you will get everytime someone posts in it

Sorry but can't help with the phone hacking

I think Facebook itself will be a big handicap to this succeeding.

The lack of a thread structure and of a decent search facility will start to make it progressively harder to use and navigate as more and more stuff gets added.

Groups are not a great way to try and run a forum. A better way would have been to have done it as a page with an iframe tab or as an application.

    Re: Facebook Dancers Forum

Its some sort of stuck up exclusive club innit. I had to ask to be a member, and I'll be most upset if they agree .

I do love the blurb. It starts with : "This group allows you to say what you want to say!"

oh great! Lots of things I want to say!, oh but then it has 11 new rules EVERY ONE of which is about things you may well want to say but are not allowed to

Can they change it to "This group allows you to say what you want to say aslong as you think like us!"

(fishing for more cross site wars innit )

Yes - as I said, if you want a forum, why not set up a forum?

I've been asked. Nyerr. I'm important, I am. You're not.

To be fair, you do need rules for any group. I just don't see what that group offers that is different...

That's this place, you fool. We're the Borg. Do try to remember.
