Its like snooker without Alex Higgans it just seems a bit flatter (and I use to moan about the antics but now miss it, the irony)
Coincidentally, yesterday was looking for a bow-tie and I stumbled on Popeye's pipe I'd made from a cork and an orange stick for the Ceroc Champs when I competed with the lovely Olive Oyl as my partner. It brought back happy memories of championships in days of yore.

It's all much more serious nowadays - in fact, I think it was much more serious way back when. I suppose I took my comedy outfits very seriously - I still think our best one was two midget sumo wrestlers with the referee being a taller, more leggy version of Rachel Stevens in a kimono. It was like two Bernie Ecclestones on acid in one-piece sumo outfits and a tall, classy, leggy beauty trying to control us.

    Leroy (Satchel) Paige (1906-1982)

Mickey Mouse's girlfriend, Minnie, made her film debut, along with Mickey, in "Steamboat Willie" on November 18, 1928.
That date is recognized as her official birthday.

Is that me in the middle of the top one?

That is the top one after it's turned right way up.

    From facebook posts:

Alex and izzy won open, Dale and Jade second and Jamie and Colleen third
Ekow Eric Oduro won Top Cats + Lucky Dip

Surprised there's been so little posted.

Eastern European names are tough to spell!

    Aerials was Pavel and Partner
    Showcase was Dieter(?) and Partner
Tim Stevens won Ceroc X & Dance Off I think
Tony Epps & Haley won Pro-Am
    Darren and Zuki won Advanced
    Ceroc Nights won Team Cabaret

I had a good day, enjoyed it lots. Think Lucky Dip and Top Cats cater for different elements and is worth keeping both. Pro-Am and Dance Off I am less sure about. If I went along to spectate and freestyle think I'd have been a bit bored. Music mostly very good. Bar prices extortionate but free water readily available. Did as well as I'd expect to in the comps and realised that some of the things I value in a follower when social dancing count for much less in competition. Numbers were lower than I'd expect and it seems a shame that the comp scene may be becoming a little segregated - some people I'd have expected to be there were not so and whether this is due to politics or other reasons I am not sure. Regardless I think I'll probably be back next year.

Showcase by Piotr & Agata (Poland)
Team Cabaret by 'Black Ice' (previously Ceroc Knights I believe)
Open by Aleks Kvam & Izzy Szydelko
Top Cats by Ekow Edowu & Jade Sarkhel

Glad to hear you enjoyed the Champs, Rob. I thought you danced brilliantly

In my opinion, the Dance Off was a great success, as reflected by the numbers taking part. I appreciate that was likely to be the case as it was free entry with no pre-registration, but I felt the audience really enjoyed the event and the sight of judges slapping wrist-bands on the dancers brought plenty of cheers from the crowd. The Pro-Am was probably under-subscribed as it hasn't been well publicised. I think with a little more promotion it could be quite successful. Pro-Am events are extremely popular in the US as it gives amateurs a chance to dance with the top pros, and there is no reason why they shouldn't be popular here too.

    And as Maxine says:

I thought the dance off a success too, helped no doubt by being free to enter and the wristband snapping did add an extra element of tension. I just felt that once past the first couple of heats it was much the same people as in Top Cats and that if it was felt there were too many comps vs freestyle time then maybe there's a way to merge Top Cats and Dance Off (though as one costs £10 to enter and one costs nothing I can see an immediate problem in that plan) Pro-Am in theory is great but, with respect, there's no-one AFAIK who I'd class as a top pro in Ceroc in the same way as there may be in other dance styles. Pretty much all the teachers have day jobs. But, as you say, it's a new category and maybe it will develop in future years and I fully agree that it's good to try new categories to keep the event fresh.

A load of my friends performed a Doctor Who Cabaret at the Champs. They didn't get through to the finals but it was a great laugh and loads of the audience seemed to enjoy it!

    Re: Ceroc Champs

This was the first time I'd been there for the whole day and taken part and it was a brilliantly exciting day!
From the first moment we arrived, it felt a bit like a weekender, noticing lots of fav faces in the crowd from all over.
Loved the venue - easy to find, easy to park, and thought the whole day was orchestrated excellently.
There was a good crowd from "Strictly Ceroc" and it was so exciting watching all my friends compete and do well. We did ourselves proud, nearly all got to a final and won some medals and a trophy to take home.
Also fab to watch the specialised categories too - Open, Ariels, Showcases and Team cabarets.. another world !!
Many of the outfits were just amazing too - including a couple of unbelievable costume changes mid-dance!
True, there wasn't masses of freestyle during the day, so anyone not competing wouldn't have got to dance a lot. Then again, you might assume that someone coming to spectate, would do so because they want to watch. Otherwise they would get an evening ticket, for the comp highlights and loads of dancing. Some newish to dancing friends from Cheltenham got a coach up just for the day to watch - and were just glued to their ringside seats the whole time and loved it.
I thought the dance off was fun, and a good way to get everyone involved.
The evening freestyle was excellent too. Marc Forster was on form in the blues room, which has the most wonderful white marble floor! Couldn't believe it was suddenly 2am and time to go home..

People partied out from the Royal Wedding?
Long holidays across the double long weekends?
Fewer people want to spend £30 + travel on a day out watching dancing right now?

I normally go, I didn't this year as I was concerned about the journey as I thought the overload of tourists brought on from the wedding would create delays/hold-ups etc.

If it was the same then I am surprised you thought that Marcus. Did they have their outfits on? I thought it was good fun, not a massive amount of great dancing in there but still well choreographed and the Troxy crowd seemed to like it a lot more than the judges did.

This performance is already on youtube, with several others. I will try and update this bundle as others are put up.

FWIW I also tried to video the dress rehearsal at the Ceroc Central freestyle night two nights previously (front & rear view). The video quality is terrible, but I have left them both up as there was a forced substitution in the comp of Dr. Who due to illness.
