Maybe I'm evil and twisted, but I couldn't help laughing when I heard that the police may organise protest marches over the proposed changes to their organisation.
I mean, seriously, who's going to police their protest? Will they be detained without charge, against their will (kettled) for hours by some of their own?
I'm all for maintaining law and order, but the majority of the student protestors were peaceful. Their reward for protesting (an undeniable right in a free and democratic country):
1. Detained for hours in the cold without charge, or access to legal representation.
2. No access to sanitation (police statements to the contrary were exposed as lies after protestors were released from the kettle)
3. No access to water or food (police statements to the contrary were exposed as lies after protestors were released from the kettle)
4. Charged my mounted police (1 minute 10 seconds in the video)
5. Subjected to a dangerous crush
To me it looked very much like the police were being deployed in a highly politicised manner.
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Constable Savage anyone?
Maybe they're self-policing ?
