    St. Valentine Who?

Who was St. Valentine anyway. There seems to be no absolute certainty that the February 14th one ever existed.

It looks like the whole thing has been created as a sales gimmick.

An alternative way of looking at it is that it is the only day of the year that someone can send another person anonymous gifts. The rest of the year it is called stalking.

every single holiday we celebrate is a mish-mash of thousands years worth of chinese whispers, so I wouldn't worry about this particular one

True enough, but there is no one credible story behind it. At least Halloween can be traced moreorless in a straight line back to it's roots in Scotland.

Luckily for Gav, I don't like the whole rip-off of valentines day. Silly novelty presents that nobody wants or needs, overpriced and too busy restaurants, flowers costing three times as much as any other day. You can keep it all.

I think I spent too many years single and resentful about it. It's fake romance...

Pete loves it though. So although I ban him from buying flowers for a week before and after, I let him cook me dinner

Saint Valentine was apparently a Christian martyr in Rome - nothing to do with romance.

Mrs CRM is getting a card, a small personalised present and a nice restaurant dinner, since both of us are the romantic type she gets flowers on a reasonably regular basis anyway...

I proposed to my wife on Friday the 13th and she answered on valentines day - very romantic. Other than that, neither of us are overly bothered by it

Would probably be more concerned if I had someone to be romantic with, been nearly 10 years now.

Though the last girlfriend got a hot air balloon ride over Kent and the one before got flown to Edinburgh for a Chinese.

Maybe I should hurry back home and get that dance with Minnie.

Cooking dinner for Twirly though.. now that IS an UNUSUAL event

Gav asked me on February 13th too. I didn't keep him waiting a whole day for the answer though. How cruel!

I haven't got a problem with Valentine's Day - I always receive loads of cards and pressies.

I open each card with a little buzz of excitement ....... but they always all say "happy birthday"

Oh well, at least the postman regards me with a look of admiration ........ for a little while, anyway.

I'm not into the big commercial thing, but its nice to do something to mark the day - its more about spending time with the person than spending lots of money.
