    Eye Glasses

About a year ago, i started getting niggling headaches when using the computer or reading.

I went to the opticians who have prescribed me glasses to use when on computer or reading for long periods, just when i feel my eyes are getting tired.

Ive now found that i am becoming more reliant on the glasses.

Is it because my eyes are getting lazy due to wearing glasses now and then and therefore the fix has become the problem or

am i just getting old !

whats your experiences with glasses... do your eyes get worse if you wear them.?

Have been short sighted all my life and worn glasses or lenses for years. Am now getting slightly longer sighted too, as detailed things are not quite as clear as they used to be when I'm wearing my lenses (though can see close up without them if I hold things at the end of my nose, which I've always had to do as I'm that short sighted).

I doubt it's dependence on the glasses. The lens in they eye is just less flexible with age and can't focus as accurately. Anyway, if you stop wearing the glasses, the headaches may come back...

Thanks love... thats what i thought... ya just getting old.. but think about it.

If you put glasses on to help your eyes, surely it makes them worse in the long run.

The same as using face creams, i never used to use face creams and never had tight skin but now if i dont, i have tight skin. (girls will understand this) is that because they put something in the cream that makes that happen.

    you see my point.!!

I'm afraid its ya age dear!

    It gets to us all

I had 20/20 vision up until about 5 years ago, then one night my brother took my out for something to eat and I laughed my head off when I saw him put 'specs' on
Then I said, lets have a go and all of a sudden the print jumped off the menu... JEEZ, I need glasses

So I went to the opticians who told me, almost 'everyone' starts needing glasses after the age of 40!!!

    I'm upto +2 now

Have worn specs for about 7 years now (also as a result of using the computer). My problem is when it comes to wearing shades. Keep having to take one pair off to wear the other, and having to carry two cases around.

If anyone watches CSI NY, I like the specs that Sid wears, the magnetic ones. Have looked into them. They are called CLIC. About 60 quid a pair, plus you can get sunglasses too.

Yes but the optician said, its something to do with the shape of your eyes changing and will happen at the same rate, regardless whether you choose to wear glasses or carry on putting up with straining, headaches and not being able to see properly

It will get to everyone in the end!

As for me, I can't see small writting without them now, so I don't have a choice anymore

I'd say, the fact that you call them "eye glasses" tells you that it's because you're getting old.
Obviously, when you start calling them "spectacles" you have to get the horn-rimmed ones with a chain to hang them around your neck.

that is my nightmare - as my glasses are rimless with very fine arms and I can't see beyond 30cms with out them - so if I forget where they are I'm in serious terrible trouble!!

have been wearing glasses since I was 11/12 and they have stayed pretty stable over the years - only small changes every couple of year - always get my eyes checked at least once a year

am dreading what is going to happen with age - my eyes a bad enough already!!!

Glasses since I was 17, minimal deterioration since.

Looked at laser surgery but I'm short sighted and only 2-3 years from age deterioration so if I had them corrected they'd just go wrong again quickly. Instead I'll suffer slower deterioration by starting from 'the other side'*
