To be honest, the reviews which I pay most attention to are the ones that are - or appear - balanced ("good, bad, ugly" format). They're the ones that seem most credible to me.

    are they mistaken?

For the same reason that folk connected with events aren't allowed to advertise them on here I don't believe that they should be allowed to write such aftermath posts, certainly without firstly disclosing their connection with the event in question. What folk do on their own websites or Facebook pages is one thing but this is a public forum and so it should be treated differently.

I don't care if someone's connected to an event - although I think it's helpful if they clarify that connection, via a declaration-of-interest or whatever. If only to stop this sort of side-tracking of a thread.

When Jive Addiction were still involved in this forum, I think there was a lot of useful feedback and discussion generated, which both John and Wes contributed to, and some of which found its way into the next events. No-one was under the impression that they weren't out to promote their events, of course, but they still managed to contribute positively I think.
My understanding is that John may still read (some) of the feedback, but does not want to contribute to it. Which is a shame.

At the end of the day though, be it Sara White, John, or anybody thats in the industry, they all, every single one of them, have opinions biased or not that we can take or leave. do we really need a forum that starts each aftermath thread with.

Hi, before i tell you about this weekend, i declare i set up the water jugs for the owner of this event and i got 10% reduction in my room rate.

I think Northants Girly makes a very valid point and one that's been discussed at length before
The common consensus came out that, we all enjoy reading reviews, (not blatant advertisements), from everyone, especially ones which , are as David said, 'balanced' including any good, bad, ugly and constructive points but its also important to us all, to know if there's any underlying reasons for that person to be biased.
If someone's open and straight with their connections, then I think everyone's happy!

    Exactly.

it will never stop and it will continue.

    but answer me this.......

if you are friends with an event runner, surely your opinion is biased. ! Even if it was a crap night or weekend,, your going to put the exact opposite arn't you?

    errrr . . no!

If an event organiser was a friend and I had a crap time at their event I just wouldn't write about it on a public forum.

However, I would consider telling them about it privately.

The point is, a lot of people make their minds up about booking for events/weekenders, based on reading reviews and if people read the review, under the impression its written 'without bias' then its not fair, as its misleading!

    who cares. !!
    I care!

I don't for one minute think Sara White wrote any 'untruths' in her review and I enjoyed reading it very much but I'm also fully aware most of the DJ's work for her at her own venues!
Not everyone reading it will have that knowledge that and it might make a difference to them, if they were using the reviews to decide between 2 similar hotel based events in the future.

If you have to 'pay' to go to an event, then I see no reason not to be honest, even if you're friendly

I like giving and reading 'constructive' criticism and I watch to see if organisers 'listen and act'
If I don't like something, I'll say! Quite usually very directly to whoever's the person capable of making changes.
I also like to give praise, where praise is due! I know how much it can mean to some, to be thanked and acknowledged publicly.
It often means more than the financial reward they get!

If you care, why is the post still on the thread, you are a moderator are you not.

Surely, its a blatant advert for her own dj's? or so you are saying it could be. so if we all care so much - remove it.

I still dont care. Facebook is full of it, the forum is full of it, it happens.

    I'd say nothing.

Most people are the same - and it's actually pretty obvious when a night's not been great, because there's a deafening silence from people who attended (and typically, from people who'd been talking about it previously).

I still dont care. Facebook is full of it, the forum is full of it, it happens.
The truth of the matter is, we have to make a judgement call on all posts and on reflection, maybe I (or one of us) should have deleted the paragraph about the DJ's and had it been reported as a complaint, we'd have upheld the request for removal but, I enjoyed reading the review and thought it had some other informative and interesting points.
I'd like to encourage people, 'all' people, to write reviews and 'apart' from the paragraph about the DJ's, I thought it was a good example of a nicely written review!
