    my big fat gypsy wedding

Channel four have done themselves proud again, with this wonderful fly on the wall documentary of travellers and their rules, regulations and lifestyle.

I spent the whole hour with my gob open. !!

Communion in a candy floss ensemble with the dress weighing twice as much as the child

Wedding with crotch, legs and stockings hanging out and that was just the bride.

Grabbing - new word for perverts.

Is it for real or completely exaggerated for the TV !!

I agree, its absolutely captivating TV although, it did through up a few unanswered questions. Maybe we'll find out in the next episode but until then...

Where do they keep all those dresses?
How do they get dressed, in such confined spaces? (I can hardly cope at Pontins )
    Where do they wash?
The dresses per year, must run into 10's of £1000's per family, where do they get the money?
If they're 'travellers', how come some now live in 'houses'?
Grabbing (an attack on a single girl, where the boy demands a kiss and if she says no, basically forces her with brutality) is this really a part of their culture that the actually parents agree with???????
Is Katy Price a 'secret' pikey?

Gosh, sounds like a "must watch" to me - I better catch up on iplayer. Got to find out how you could get married with crotch, stockings etc....however, don't people's legs hang out every day? Just a quibble.

Aren't there some Eastern european backwaters where people still get married by kidnapping your chosen bride? You have your wicked way, then it's off to the registry office and all smiles again in the morning.

I said the same. If she watched this, she must have been cringing at just how pikey her dress and wedding was.

I also wondered where they get all their money from. I dread to think!

T'was a real eye opener though and I'll most definitely be tuning in again next week.

I was at a friends wedding in Slovakia and it is traditional to "pretend" to kidnap the bride and the groom has to find and rescue her. I kidnapped her and ran off to a pub, but her husband to be was English and unaware of the tradition so took some convincing to go and find her . I think "backwaters" could be seen as slightly offensive though

Re: my big fat gypsy wedding

I watched both the original Cutting Edge doc and then the first episode of the new series on You Tube and thought it was fascinating. Watching the girl being squashed into her seat at the wedding top table was amusing and the groom (who had been suited and booted) being described as 'changing into something more comfortable' at the reception is then seen in a white wife-beater

It's easy to laugh at some of the stuff on there but what is clear is just how different the traveller society is from the mainstream (and the overwhelming impression is that they want to keep it that way)

Will definitely be watching this week's episode.

Definitely a must-watch, I was gobsmacked with it all. I felt sorry for the poor kid in the Scarlett O' Hara meets Katie Price ensemble, all the other little girls (dressed in plain white frocks as befits a First Communion) were giggling when she got out of the stretch limo.
I would love to know where the money comes from for these horrendous outfits, which must cost thousands.

One part I thought was funny, was when the bride was out shopping for stuff for her new marital home, at what appeared to be a funfair!

    Classy!

Although, on thing I did notice was, although the style of their home furnishings wasn't to my taste, everything did look spotless!

Yes, the ornaments were of the 'crinoline lady' variety (matching the dresses!) You're right though, the homes were spotless - much cleaner than mine I'm sure!

    O.M.G. All has become clear.

Ah, but there was a glint of envy in their eyes as well!

Thanks for adding to my vocabulary.

I think my favourite bits were Cheyenne and Montana - 15 going on a hard-bitten 39. She didn't try very hard to fight him off, did she? I've swatted flies harder than that. And as for faithless Cheyenne's behaviour......

I'm sure if I said to my nieces, aged 4 and 7, you can pick any dress you want, they'd pick that one!

Come to think of it.. if they organised a wedding, brought ornaments for a house, had their nails and hair done, just as they wanted.. it would end up just like that!

    Cheyenne and Montana
And they'd probably give their kids names like that too!

Bless them.............. they'll grow out of it!!

There is a small problem here with things like ithings. Copyright in particular, there is none. So Apple especially and other top brands don't like selling products here, and the ones you can get are hugely expensive.
