What's with the mass bird deaths?

There were reports last week in the USA of birds falling out of the sky dead.

Then it was Sweden - same thing.

And now this morning in Italy: over a thousand turtle doves..... fall dead to the ground....

    see http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...eath-case.html

What's happening? If it's some kind of poison, this must be a bit concerning.

And apparently - millions of dead fish are being washed up as well.

If it was just localised in one place then that might be understandable - but this is a bit weird....

    Any thoughts?

I was feeling uneasy when I first read about it, but then I saw the part about some members of the press coining the term 'aflockalypse' , and now I find it impossible to take the matter seriously .

Too right. It's a portent. We're all doomed.

Still, this kind of thinking has its upsides, no need to worry about stress at work, for example, or how big my pension might not be.

Re: What's with the mass bird deaths?

From the Italian news report. One local newspaper covering the incident wrote: "Let's hope it is poisoning or an illness because that would be easier to deal with than it being a sign the world is coming to an end."

What a delightful example of understatement. Let's all just keep calm and carry on, OK?

    BOOK OF REVELATION

    16:4-7 THE THIRD VIAL.
And the third angel poured out his vial. John sees the third vial poured upon the rivers and fountain of waters; and they become blood.

A mass RED TIDE would have an effect of birds causing them to become poisoned and just drop out of the sky. Would also explain the dead fish

    from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_tide

Some red tides are associated with the production of natural toxins, depletion of dissolved oxygen or other harmful effects, and are generally described as harmful algal blooms. The most conspicuous effects of red tides are the associated wildlife mortalities among marine and coastal species of fish, birds, marine mammals, and other organisms. In the case of Florida red tides, these mortalities are caused by exposure to a potent neurotoxin called brevetoxin which is produced naturally by the marine algae Karenia brevis.

For the record, im not one to believe in the end of the world theroy. The book of Revelations and Nostrdamus are very open to interpritation much in the same way as the newspapers horroscopes.

Anyway, I though Swine Flu was meant to be the end of the world (or was it foot and mouth?)

As a matter of fact, on the the subject of horoscopes, can anyone, a believer, for example, please explain horoscopes to me.

My point is how can a ball of gas, billions of miles from earth, that has absolutely no knowledge of human existence, because it has no knowledge, possibly affect our day to day lives.

I always thought it was something to do with the alignment of planets, gravitational forces etc.

That or gullibility. I forget which.

Well, we've already had one portent of doom.

What, you buy this idea that it's been done because of maketing? Hah, how naive.

Agreed but the 12 signs are all constellations aren't they? Which are made up of stars, which are balls of gas.

I might be being pedantic but are there not 13 signs of the Zodiac, as the moon orbits the Earth 13 times a year.

But you might be right about gullible.

Quite simply - a properly prepared personalised horoscope can be incredibly accurate. Even the more generalised ones can contain a lot of truth, if written by a real expert. Look yourself up here if you don't believe me.

I still don't get how a group of stars that have no connection to earth and are billions of miles away can affect human life. Do they affect animal life? And what affect did they have before humans?
